On March 24, 2009, the District’s Board of Education voluntarily recognized AASD as the exclusive representative of the Certificated and Classified supervisors, thereby enabling AASD to represent all Certificated and Classified supervisors in their employment relations with District. According to applicable law, and as a condition of continued employment with the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD), all Certificated and Classified supervisors assigned to an “included” District job class are required to pay AASD dues as a regular member, an agency fee payor, or claim a religious exemption.

  • AASD Regular Membership

Entitles employee to representation in his/her employment relationship with the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD). A member also has the right to attend all AASD membership meetings and activities, to vote and to hold office within AASD, to provide input on overall collective bargaining goals, and to vote on ratification of collective bargaining agreements between SDUSD and AASD. The amount of regular dues is currently .115% of your gross annual salary, deducted from each of your salary or wage payments for 10 months.
  • Agency Fee Payor

If you are not interested in joining AASD (for philosophical/non-religious reasons), you are still required to pay an agency fee. The agency fee represents the pro rata fair share of AASD expenses and collective bargaining expenses. The amount of the agency fee is currently .115% of your gross annual salary, deducted from each of your salary or wage payments for 10 months.
  • Religious Exemption

If you are a member of a religious body whose traditional tenets or teachings include objections to joining or financially supporting employee organizations, you shall not be required to join or financially support the AASD. Nevertheless, you are required to pay an amount equivalent to the AASD regular membership dues (currently .115% of your gross annual salary) from each of your salary or wage payments to a non-religious, non-charitable organization for 10 months.
