 REMINDERS

  • IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ This information pertains to current AASD members who were AASD members prior to June 28, 2018.  It does NOT apply to affiliate members or retired members.  Many have asked how to “re-join” AASD in light of the Supreme Court Decision, Janus v. AFSCME.  If you were an AASD member on June 27, 2018, per the Decision, you automatically stayed as an AASD "Member in Good Standing" and will remain so.  However, we are asking all AASD members to re-commit to AASD by completing the form (link below) and returning it to the AASD office.  This re-confirms your AASD membership and ensures that you have access to the benefits of being an AASD member – legal representation, AASD representation, discounted services, scholarships for your children, professional development reimbursements, etc.

Please complete the form referenced below as soon as possible and return it to AASD  by scanning and e-mailing it to jim@aasdcs.org; faxing to 619-295-6274; placing it in school mail addressed to AASD; or sending it via US mail to the address on the form.   (Some of you have already filled out the new membership form this summer – if so, it is not necessary to complete it again.)  If you have any questions regarding the re-commitment form, please contact the AASD office at 619-295-2118 or e-mail one of the AASD staff members for assistance.  Thank you in advance for your commitment to our Union – AASD.   Click here for Form.

  • IMPLEMENTATION OF NEW MATERNITY LEAVE LANGUAGE FOR CLASSIFIED AND CERTIFICATED AASD MEMBERS.  Background -- In the Spring of 2018, the District and AASD agreed to provide a new type of leave for mothers who have given birth. Effective July 1, 2017, employees who give birth will be granted three consecutive workweeks of maternity leave immediately upon the birth of her child.  Prior to this leave entitlement, birth mothers were required to use their sick leave in order to receive pay while on a leave following the birth of a child. In the state of California, unused sick days may be converted to service credit (see STRS and PERS websites). This meant women who have given birth were negatively affected as they have less unused sick days available to apply upon their retirement. For this reason, maternity leave can only be accessed by mothers who give birth. Maternity Leave -- Maternity leave is a new leave entitlement for birth mothers employed by the San Diego Unified School District. This leave entitlement is separate from other contractual and statutory leaves available to new mothers.  Employees who have been employed for at least 12 months shall be granted three (3) consecutive workweeks of leave with pay immediately following the birth of her child. If an AASD member gave birth between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018, please contact your Payroll Specialist for next steps.  If an AASD member gave birth July 1, 2018 and after, please complete a Maternity Leave form at the member’s site or department and provide it to the site timekeeper.  Human Resources has attached frequently asked questions to this notification; additional information and forms are located on the website: https://www.sandiegounified.org/forms-0

  • UPDATE- 2019-2020 WORK YEAR CALENDARS.  Note- there was an error on the Traditional Elementary/Middle Principal and Vice Principal Traditional Calendars. New Calendars have been posted. AASD and the District have set the work year calendars for 2019-20.  Please see below for the various calendars.  (Note:  The calendar for Classified Food Services AASD will be forthcoming).  Thank you to the AASD Calendar Committee representatives Juan Romo, Reashon Villery, Jeff Thomas and Donis Coronel for their input and to District Representatives Krista Conn, Jim Solo and Cheryl Hibbeln for their collaboration.  Please note that the furlough days are returned on July 1, 2019 so furlough days are not reflected on the calendars.  Please be aware that the District has submitted a request to bargain reopeners – including the Hours of Employment article, which would contain any new furlough day language.  Stay tuned!
