  • PRINCIPALS ASKED TO PROVIDE INPUT REGARDING BUDGET SOLUTIONS.  AASD was contacted by the Superintendent and Chief of Staff and asked to select Principals to attend a focus group with District leaders regarding their thoughts on upcoming budget reduction solutions.  The focus group met on November 26.  AASD representatives who attended were:  John Aguilar (Normal Heights), Ryan Brock (DePortola), Matt Fallon (Wangenheim), Maria Gomez (Penn), Irene Hightower (Cabrillo), Precious Jackson-Hubbard (Bell), Tracey Jenkins-Martin (Johnson),  Cynthia Larkin (Morse), Tanya McMillin (Dewey), Jeff Olivero (University City), Mike Rebman (Twain), Tim Suanico (Audubon), Scott Thomason (CPMA), Reashon Villery (Oak Park) and Donis Coronel (AASD).  District representatives were: Jessica Falk-Michelli (Executive Director, Labor Relations), Debbie Foster (Executive Director, Finance), Staci Monreal (Chief of Staff), Greg Ottinger (Chief Business Officer), Acacia Thede (Chief Human Resources Officer).

The AASD-represented principals provided clear, concise and relevant information to the group, based on their own experiences and those of their colleagues, to address the projected $41 million deficit for 2019-20.  At the conclusion of the meeting, AASD representatives were assured by district leaders that their input would be shared with the Superintendent and executive leadership when planning budget solutions for 2019-20.  In a following conversation between AASD Executive Director, Donis Coronel, and Superintendent Marten, the Superintendent indicated she had been fully briefed on the focus group input and would be taking it under consideration when planning the Board of Education presentations on December 4 and 11.  AASD thanks the District for soliciting and considering our input.

  • IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ This information pertains to current AASD members who were AASD members prior to June 28, 2018.  It does NOT apply to affiliate members or retired members.  Many have asked how to “re-join” AASD in light of the Supreme Court Decision, Janus v. AFSCME.  If you were an AASD member on June 27, 2018, per the Decision, you automatically stayed as an AASD "Member in Good Standing" and will remain so.  However, we are asking all AASD members to re-commit to AASD by completing the form (link below) and returning it to the AASD office.  This re-confirms your AASD membership and ensures that you have access to the benefits of being an AASD member – legal representation, AASD representation, discounted services, scholarships for your children, professional development reimbursements, etc.

Please complete the form referenced below as soon as possible and return it to AASD  by scanning and e-mailing it to jim@aasdcs.org; faxing to 619-295-6274; placing it in school mail addressed to AASD; or sending it via US mail to the address on the form.   (Some of you have already filled out the new membership form this summer – if so, it is not necessary to complete it again.)  If you have any questions regarding the re-commitment form, please contact the AASD office at 619-295-2118 or e-mail one of the AASD staff members for assistance.  Thank you in advance for your commitment to our Union – AASD.   Click here for Form.
