As many of you have learned over the holidays, we have lost a valued and dedicated colleague.  Dr. Allen Teng, the principal of Mann Middle School, passed away on Saturday, December 29.  Dr. Teng is survived by his wife, Chellyn and their two children (an elementary age daughter and a middle school age son).  Mrs. Teng has asked that we respect their privacy at this difficult time for the family.  Please keep the Teng family in your thoughts during this most difficult time.  Information regarding services and a Go Fund Me campaign to assist the Teng family are below:

President Barack Obama attributed the following quote to James Baldwin during his speech at the Selma anniversary:
“We are capable of bearing a great burden once we discover that the burden is reality and arrive where reality is.”
Our strength as a school district family comes from our bonds with and commitments to each other. We must take advantage of these connections during times of tragedy and sadness. Michelle Irwin, principal of Marshall Middle, and Dr. Teng’s trusted and valued colleague, has created a GoFundMe campaign as one small way to demonstrate support for the Teng family. Please take a moment to visit the link below:

Thank you for keeping Mrs. Teng  and the family in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Etter Elliott, retired Food Services Area Manager, passed away December 23, 2018.  Etter retired in June 2017 with almost 40 years of dedicated service to SDUSD.  Services were held on January 5, 2019.  AASD sends our thoughts and condolences to the family. Please

  • IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ This information pertains to current AASD members who were AASD members prior to June 28, 2018.  It does NOT apply to affiliate members or retired members.  Many have asked how to “re-join” AASD in light of the Supreme Court Decision, Janus v. AFSCME.  If you were an AASD member on June 27, 2018, per the Decision, you automatically stayed as an AASD "Member in Good Standing" and will remain so.  However, we are asking all AASD members to re-commit to AASD by completing the form (link below) and returning it to the AASD office.  This re-confirms your AASD membership and ensures that you have access to the benefits of being an AASD member – legal representation, AASD representation, discounted services, scholarships for your children, professional development reimbursements, etc.

Please complete the form referenced below as soon as possible and return it to AASD  by scanning and e-mailing it to jim@aasdcs.org; faxing to 619-295-6274; placing it in school mail addressed to AASD; or sending it via US mail to the address on the form.   (Some of you have already filled out the new membership form this summer – if so, it is not necessary to complete it again.)  If you have any questions regarding the re-commitment form, please contact the AASD office at 619-295-2118 or e-mail one of the AASD staff members for assistance.  Thank you in advance for your commitment to our Union – AASD.   Click here for Form.
