DAILY UPDATE #2 -- 3/17/2020

  • AASD Office Closure:  March 16 through April 3, 2020

Dear AASD Members in Good Standing, Affiliate Members and Retired Members:

AASD will be sending out a daily update, Monday-Friday, throughout the school closure period.  At this time, schools are closed through April 3, with students returning April 6.  Of course, that is open to modification as we go into the upcoming weeks.  The AASD Office will remain closed during the period of time the district is closed.  AASD staff will be working remotely and can be reached at the contact information at the end of this e-mail.

AASD has created a Google Form for AASD Members to report issues, questions or concerns regarding work-related issues and the COVID-19 virus.  Any issues, questions or concerns submitted via the Google form will be shared daily with the District.  AASD will then share the answers to issues, questions or concerns submitted as those answers are received from the district.

The link to share issues/questions/concerns is:
    https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeVSsqBQSHboCdgqbnpaucUY--DHKjosG8MAmRuCxawzB4blg/viewform?usp=sf_link

Please do not share this link outside of AASD membership (classified and certificated management/supervisors).  The link will be active until this crisis is over.  PLEASE CHECK THE DISTRICT’S WEBSITE TO ENSURE YOUR ISSUE/QUESTION/ CONCERN HAS NOT ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED THERE.

  • Q and A (March 17, 2020)    (Questions were submitted by AASD members; the answers are from the District)

Q --  If a member is having issues logging into the district system with a district laptop remotely, who can help?
A --  The Help Desk is working remotely and will be responding to the tickets submitted.  The employee should submit a ticket.

Q –  AASD has food services supervisory staff that are working during the food distribution process.  They are asking if they will be provided with protective clothing and gear such as an n95 respirator mask and what other protective measures will be taken as they will be dealing with many people at the drive through/walk up food distribution locations.
A – Food Services management is taking direction from the District’s physician, Dr. Taras, for the necessary steps for employees to take.  If Dr. Taras recommends masks or other measures, they will be implemented.  UPDATE- Wilma Wooten, County Health Officer, just said no face masks necessary for school food distribution. The important thing is serving people by household unit, so there is no mingling, and maintaining social distance - 3’ - 6’

Q -- From a principal: Communication that we are asked/requested/advised to send to our school communities must be translated into Spanish simultaneously. On 3/16 we received communication that was only in English. I reached out twice to have it translated so that I'm not inundating my communities inbox with multiple emails. As of 3/17, nothing has been shared. This makes school leaders who are waiting on translation services appear to not be informing their communities at the same rate as their peers. I completely understand and sympathize with the Central Office, just asking for an additional consideration for those of us tasked with keeping our communities informed. Thank you.
A -- Translation services is working as quickly as possible to translate communications. Communications will post translated messages to the Principal's Page. Communications will also post on the District's COVID-19 News page when additional translated communications are available and will direct principals to the Principal Page for the translated communication.
