DAILY UPDATE #5 -- 3/20/2020

  • AASD Office Closure:  March 16 through April 3, 2020

AASD will be sending out a Daily Update, Monday-Friday, throughout the school closure period.  At this time, schools are closed through April 3, with students returning April 6.  Of course, that is open to modification as we go into the upcoming weeks.  The AASD Office will remain closed during the period of time the district is closed.  AASD staff will be working remotely and can be reached at the contact information at the end of this e-mail.

AASD has created a Google Form for AASD Members to report issues, questions or concerns regarding work-related issues and the COVID-19 virus.  Any issues, questions or concerns submitted via the Google form will be shared daily with the District.  AASD will then share the answers to issues, questions or concerns submitted as those answers are received from the district.

The link to share issues/questions/concerns is:
    https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeVSsqBQSHboCdgqbnpaucUY--DHKjosG8MAmRuCxawzB4blg/viewform?usp=sf_link

Please do not share this link outside of AASD membership (classified and certificated management/supervisors).  The link will be active until this crisis is over.  PLEASE CHECK THE DISTRICT’S WEBSITE TO ENSURE YOUR ISSUE/QUESTION/ CONCERN HAS NOT ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED THERE.

NOTE:  All previous AASD Daily Updates and Weekly Updates are located on the AASD Website www.aasdcs.org if you need to refer back to them for information.

  • Q and A (March 20, 2020)    (Questions were submitted by AASD members; the answers are from the District)

Q –  If schools are closed through "the fall" as mentioned by Governor Newsom, how will this affect our pay through the Summer?
A – (Answer from AASD)  At this time, there is no interruption in the pay of all monthly salaried employees.

Q -- How are Classified Managers/Supervisors being kept in the loop by the district? I see that communications are going out from Area Superintendents to Principals, but how are Classified Managers/Supervisors to receive similar information prior to classified staff at school sites receiving? Is there a listserve for Classified Managers/Supervisors that I can join?
A -- The District has not sent information directly to classified employees. However, if such information is to be sent, classified managers/supervisors will be copied on the communication.

Q --  Are custodial staffs being paid overtime? I am told that Food Service workers are being paid overtime.
A --  Currently employees that are reporting to work would only be paid overtime if they work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a workweek.

Q --  For year round schools, they are not due to return until 4/13 if they are working ESY.   If school is not reinstated by 4/13 would the staff who signed up and were awarded an assignment to work ESY still get paid? Or would it be unpaid time?
A --  Year round schools are to return 4/27/2020 and no District ESY is happening during the year round Spring Break.
