DAILY UPDATE #10 -- 3/27/2020

  • AASD Office Closure

NOTE:  Next week, during Spring Break (March 30-April 3), we will continue to send out the Daily Update.

AASD will be sending out a Daily Update, Monday-Friday, throughout the school closure period.  The AASD Office will remain closed during the period of time the schools/district are closed.  AASD staff will be working remotely and can be reached at the contact information at the end of this Update.

AASD has created a Google Form for AASD Members to report issues, questions or concerns regarding work-related issues and the COVID-19 virus.  Any issues, questions or concerns submitted via the Google form will be shared daily with the District.  AASD will then share the answers to issues, questions or concerns submitted as those answers are received from the district.

The link to share issues/questions/concerns is:
    https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeVSsqBQSHboCdgqbnpaucUY--DHKjosG8MAmRuCxawzB4blg/viewform?usp=sf_link

Please do not share this link outside of AASD membership (classified and certificated management/supervisors).  The link will be active until this crisis is over.  PLEASE CHECK THE DISTRICT’S WEBSITE TO ENSURE YOUR ISSUE/QUESTION/ CONCERN HAS NOT ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED THERE.

NOTE:  All previous AASD Daily Updates and Weekly Updates are located on the AASD Website www.aasdcs.org if you need to refer back to them for information.

  • Q and A (March 27, 2020)   (Questions were submitted by AASD members; the answers are from the District.  AASD publishes the answers as they are received from the District.)

No responses were received from the District to questions that have been submitted.  All questions submitted have been sent to the District for response.

  • The following e-mail was sent to Principals on March 26, 2020, regarding assessing needs for distance learning:

    Dear Principals,

Thank you for joining us yesterday on our Zoom call. As we mentioned on the call, we want to ensure that all staff members have the technology needed to implement our District’s Distance Learning Plan.

Today, March 26, you should take time to assess the technology needs of your staff so that you can distribute devices to staff tomorrow, Friday, March 27.

We know many of you have already assessed staff member technology needs. If you have not done this already, below is a sample survey you can use for staff members in need of technology.

    Next Steps:
  • Today, make a copy of this survey to send out to staff requesting that only those who need technology complete the survey.
  • Tomorrow, during the Open Access Day distribute available devices to essential staff (completing the Employee Permit for Use of School Property form).
  • You know your staff best, so if you believe a staff member needs a computer or internet access please direct them to complete this form by March 27th (Staff from the Integrated Technology team will contact staff members to arrange an appointment to pick up a device).

    Other considerations:
  • We have already been in communication with some staff who are seeking to upgrade their current laptop. We need your help in discouraging this practice.

Please know that our team is working to provide you with an additional communication related to the assessment of technology needs for your students.

    Thank you for your leadership,

    The Area Superintendent Team

  • From Scholastic – Link to Pam Allyn’s Webinar
AASD announced Pam Allyn’s webinar earlier this week.  Many AASD members were unable to participate as it fell at the same time as the mandatory Principal Zoom conferences.  Scholastic has provided a link to the webinar for those who wish to watch it.  The webinar is on “7 Strengths for These Challenging Times.”  Pam was the keynote speaker last year at the AASD/SDUSD Spring Conference.  See attached flyer for more information on the topic, but do not register using the "Register Now" button in the flyer as it is no longer active.
