  • REOPENING SCHOOLS SAFELY IN THE AGE OF COVID – A REPORT PREPARED BY THE AMERICAN FEDERATION OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS (AFSA).  PLEASE READ.
The American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA), AFL-CIO, our national union, has released the report below on the reopening of schools. AAAD would like to  share this critical report with you, before you receive it directly from AFSA.  We are very pleased that AFSA has worked to provide us with this important resource and we hope it will be useful to you in your work to reopen schools. There is a lot of valuable information included in the report, especially the need for resources for school leaders, and the ultimate goal of keeping our students safe in any reopening plan.  It is critical that the voice of school leaders has been added to the national conversation on reopening schools.  The AASD Board of Directors and Bargaining Team will be using this report to guide our discussions with the District.  AASD thanks AFSA President, Ernie Logan, AFSA Chief of Staff, Nick Spina, and all of the AFSA staff for their support of all school leaders during this difficult time.

AASD thanks Bryan Ehm, Manager, Physical Plant Operations; Jennifer Marrone, Business Manager Food and Nutrition Services and Jeff Thomas, School Site Operations Specialist, CCTE for their hard work and participation in creating this national plan.  Your dedication is appreciated!

  • QUESTIONS REGARDING AASD-BARGAINED LONGEVITY STIPEND
As you probably recall, after many years of unsuccessfully trying, this past year AASD successfully bargained a Longevity Stipend for classified and certificated AASD members who meet the criteria.  The criteria is 22 years of SDUSD district service (in any monthly, salaried capacity regardless of what bargaining unit a person was in).  Over 48% of our members are eligible for the stipend.  The date for eligibility for the 22 years of monthly, salaried service is as of June 30, 2020 at 11:59 p.m.  Those AASD members with 22 or more years of service as of June 30, 2020, will receive a longevity stipend equal to 2.5% of their annual salary.  The longevity stipend will be paid on the September 2020 pay check.  If you have any questions regarding eligibility, contact AASD Executive Director, Donis Coronel, via e-mail and she can research/answer your question.

  • FROM RANCH EVENTS – DINNERS THAT FEED UP TO 6 PEOPLE FOR $25
Tired of cooking?  As many of you know, all of the AASD events at Marina Village and Scottish Rite Center are catered by Ranch Events.  They make and serve delicious meals!  Ranch Events has opened their kitchen at the Scottish Rite Event Center (in Mission Valley) for “take out” meals that feed up to 4-5 adults and 1-2 children for $25!  Such a deal.  And delicious, home style cooked meals.  The website is below; meals can be ordered in advance or the order can be placed on the same day, as long as it is placed by 12 noon that day.  Pick up times are 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM each day at the Scottish Rite Event Center in Mission Valley. In addition, Ranch Events has just added a family meal pick up during the lunch hour. This is a great way to take a night off from cooking and still be able to feed your family at a reasonable price.  They also have individual vegetarian meals, soups and desserts as “add-ons.”  AASD has partnered with Ranch Events for many years and we are pleased they are able to bring some staff back to work.  Feel free to share this information with anyone you wish to.  Many of our AASD members have tried the meals and the feedback has been positive.

  • IMPORTANT – ELECTRONIC LINK AVAILABLE!  FILL OUT YOUR AASD MEMBERSHIP RECOMMITMENT FORM NOW!  This information pertains to current AASD members who were AASD members prior to June 28, 2018.  It does NOT apply to Affiliate members or Retired members.  Many have asked how to “re-join” AASD in light of the Supreme Court Decision, Janus v. AFSCME.  If you were an AASD member on June 27, 2018, per the Decision, you automatically stayed as an AASD "Member in Good Standing" and will remain so.  However, we are asking all AASD members to re-commit to AASD by completing the google form (link below). This re-confirms your AASD membership and ensures that you have access to the benefits of being an AASD member – legal representation, AASD representation, discounted services, scholarships for your children, professional development reimbursements, etc.

Some of you have already filled out the new membership form over the past year – if so, it is not necessary to complete it again.  If you have any questions regarding the re-commitment form, please contact the AASD office at 619-295-2118 or e-mail one of the AASD staff members for assistance.  Thank you in advance for your commitment to our Union – AASD.
