DAILY UPDATE #74 -- 7/06/2020

  • AASD OFFICE CLOSURE
AASD will be sending out a Daily Update, Monday-Friday, throughout the school closure period.  The Weekly Update will continue as usual on Thursdays with the typical news and information for AASD members.  The AASD Office will remain closed during the period of time the schools/district are closed.  AASD staff will be working remotely and can be reached at the contact information at the end of this Update.

AASD has created a Google Form for AASD Members to report issues, questions or concerns regarding work-related issues, COVID-19 virus and school reopening.  Any issues, questions or concerns submitted via the Google form will be shared daily with the District.  AASD will then share the answers to issues, questions or concerns submitted as those answers are received from the district.  You may also share your gratitude for another AASD member, district personnel, etc. via the same link.

The link to share issues/questions/concerns/gratitude is:

    https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeVSsqBQSHboCdgqbnpaucUY--DHKjosG8MAmRuCxawzB4blg/viewform?usp=sf_link

Please do not share this link outside of AASD membership (classified and certificated management/supervisors).  The link will be active until this crisis is over.  PLEASE CHECK THE DISTRICT’S WEBSITE TO ENSURE YOUR ISSUE/QUESTION/ CONCERN HAS NOT ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED THERE.

NOTE:  All previous AASD Daily Updates and Weekly Updates are located on the AASD Website www.aasdcs.org if you need to refer back to them for information.

  • BARGAINING UPDATE - Impacts and Effects of School Reopening
The AASD bargaining teams met with the District Bargaining Team on Thursday, July 2 via Zoom.  The District gave a presentation on the status of school reopening plans and the AASD team members had an opportunity to ask clarifying questions.  Bargaining starts on Thursday, July 9 and Friday, July 10.

Remember, bargaining is reserved for those items related to school reopening that are within the scope of bargaining – wages, hours of employment and working conditions.  While there are many other issues/concerns regarding school reopening, bargaining will address issues within the scope.

  • ADMINISTRATOR ACCESS TO THE SCHOOL SITE
AASD has received concerns from members (primarily Principals) regarding access to the school site.  Members are reporting receiving conflicting information from Area Superintendents regarding whether or not they are permitted at this time to be on the school site.  AASD reached out to the District for clarification.  We have been told that a message will be going out today from the District via the Principals’ Update.

  • Q and A (Monday, July 6, 2020)   (Questions were submitted by AASD members; the answers are from the District.  AASD publishes the answers as they are received from the District.)

Q:  Where is HR with open positions? How are those being filled?
A:  (Answer provided by AASD)  Which type of positions are you referring to?  Classified (if so, what type of position) or certificated (teacher, principal, vice principal, central office)?  A response to this question cannot be provided without more specific information.

    • The Board of Education approved the final phase of moving all schools to a unified TRADITIONAL School Calendar for the upcoming 2020-21 school year.
    • This is exciting news and will bring consistency for our families who have students at schools on different calendars, offer a seamless transition for students transferring within the district, provide uniformity for military families moving in or out of the area and support consistent communication with common district timelines.
    • All impacted staff members received payroll information via email from the Finance Department Friday.
  • We are finalizing a community letter for families with our communication department that will be ready and translated early next week.
