  • AASD OFFICE CLOSURE
AASD will be sending out a Daily Update, Monday-Friday, throughout the return to instruction/ school reopening period.  The Weekly Update will continue as usual on Thursdays with the typical news and information for AASD members.  The AASD Office continues to remain closed.  AASD staff are working remotely and can be reached via the contact information at the end of this Update.

AASD has created a Google Form for AASD Members to report issues, questions or concerns regarding work-related issues, COVID-19, return to instruction and school reopening.  AASD will provide answers to issues, questions or concerns submitted as answers become available.  You may also share your gratitude for another AASD member, district personnel, etc. via the same link.

  • DISTRICT AND SDEA REACH AGREEMENT ON MOU REGARDING ONLINE LEARNING
Principals and AASD received the following documents from the District yesterday evening.  More information/clarification will be forthcoming from the District so that site administrators have the information they need to begin/continue planning for the August 31 school reopening with instruction provided online.

One question that is being asked by AASD members is regarding the agreement that SDEA members (primarily teachers) may teach on campus from their actual work space/classroom during online instruction.  Principals and vice principals have asked if they will need to be physically present on the site if teachers are working from their classrooms?  The answer from District leadership is NO – site administrators are NOT required or expected to be present on site.  Custodial staff will open and then secure the school site.  In the SDUSD/SDEA agreement below, there are many parameters that teachers who elect to work from the school site must agree to follow.  They will be required to buddy up and do their own health screenings, which must be recorded.  They will have access only to their classroom and the restrooms and not to any other common area.  Those who do not follow the health and safety parameters and access rules will have that privilege revoked.  Additionally, teachers are to have little to no in-person contact with onsite custodial staff.  Teachers will be required to empty their own trash, etc. into a central area and are responsible for securing their classrooms.  There will be additional information coming from the District about the process for teachers to work onsite during online instruction.

The other question from Principals and Vice Principals is – Are site administrators permitted to work from the physical school site?  Yes - If a site administrator elects to work from the physical work site at any time or make a visit to the site, that is their choice, but they will be required to follow all health and safety guidelines and District protocols when doing so.  Meeting/visiting in-person or congregating with any other staff onsite is not permitted.  There is no expectation from District leadership that site administrators be physically on the site.

As a reminder, central office facilities, with the exception of essential workers, are closed and staff are to work remotely under the direction of their supervisor.

If any AASD member has questions or concerns, please submit them via the Google doc referenced above.
