  • Q and A (Thursday, October 15, 2020)
Q:  Today my BSS told me that the POS told him that phase 2 and phase 3 will not involve elementary schools. Why is the POS getting information about the phases before the principals?
A:  (Answer provided by AASD)   The information you have received is not accurate.  The district is bargaining phase two and subsequent phases with SDEA at this time.  There is no information to be shared publicly at this time about phase 2 or any subsequent phase.  The information you received is inaccurate and is likely a rumor.

Q:  Donis, would you please share with district leadership that the last few weeks with SPSA, Phase One, and Staffing have been extremely emotional for principals. Add to that, the negative press the district has had regarding the removal of the President's letter from the food boxes and the parent protest at the Ed Center... This not only affects us as a matter of workload, but it also puts a lot of stress on principals as we are the face of the "the district" to our families, and parents reach out to us to make sense of what they're hearing. I am not necessarily expecting a response from district leadership, but rather just appreciate the opportunity to share what many of us feel. Thank you.
A:  (Answer provided by AASD)   Thank you for your input.  I have shared it with district leadership.  AASD certainly understands this is an emotional time for principals who are being pulled in many directions and, unfortunately, are many times the “bearers of bad news” or are the “punching bags” for parents and staff.  Thank you again for sharing.  I know many of your colleagues feel the same way.

Q:  I heard that the retirement incentive is going to be changed/improved due to lack of interest.  Is that true?
A:  (Answer provided by AASD)  No, that is not true.  AASD has verified with district leadership that the plan remains as it was initially presented.  The information you heard is not accurate and likely a rumor.  While AASD does not have actual numbers, there is quite a bit of interest in the incentive.

AASD thanks All of our AASD members for the many instances of kindness, grace, compassion and true camaraderie with other AASD members during this difficult, stressful time.  AASD has seen and heard of so many random acts of kindness, colleagues sharing and brainstorming with others to work through problems and just offering a listening ear to other colleagues.  Bravo!!  And the reality is that sometimes it just feels good to vent to a work colleague who understands!!  Thank you all for not only being dedicated wonderful leaders, but for your kindness and understanding of others.  YOU make a difference!
