  • TODAY'S ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT REOPENING SCHOOLS
AASD was just as surprised as you all were to see the news reports this morning regarding the timeline for reopening schools.  When AASD learned of this, immediate contact was made with Chief of Staff Sofia Roditti to inquire as to why our AASD leaders did not receive this information prior to the news outlets reporting it.  As conversations went on throughout the morning, Board President Barrera reached out to AASD and apologized profusely for the information going public prior to AASD leaders receiving it.  Barrera was very clear that he made a mistake in talking to a news outlet outside of the district timeline for communication.  Barrera wanted AASD to be sure our leaders knew that it was not intentional and that he was profusely sorry this happened.  At 1:15pm, Interim Superintendent Jackson called an emergency meeting of AASD certificated leaders and apologized for the communication mishap.  AASD Executive Director, Donis Coronel, was also asked to speak at the meeting.  Next steps are that the district must bargain the impacts and effects with AASD.

It was unfortunate that this all happened, and it caused angst amongst our AASD leaders at a time when leaders are working hard to implement learning labs, working on SBB, etc.

The following announcement went to principals at approximately 1:00 p.m. today:

SAN DIEGO UNIFIED ADOPTS REOPENING STANDARDS:
TARGETS WEEK OF APRIL 12TH REOPENING DATE

First, I would like to apologize for the fact that many of you heard about this information from other sources, prior to receiving the district’s official message. We are disappointed that this occurred, and we are addressing this matter and believe we will be able to communicate with you all before or at the same time as other stakeholders.  Please accept my sincerest apologies on behalf of our district - Lamont
