DAILY UPDATE #234 -- 3/24/2021
- NEW ITEMS
- Q and A (Wednesday, March 24, 2021)
Q: I have a suggestion that I want the district leaders to take seriously. For a few years, when school opened, we at the school sites were sent “help” from central office to assist at the site. And it was appreciated. I am suggesting that ALL central office employees be deployed to school sites on April 12 for the week to help us safely open the site. We need all hands on deck. Please seriously consider this.
A: (Answer provided by the district) Yes, Central Office Staff will be deployed to school sites for the weeks of April 12th and April 19th. Principals were asked to submit requests and Central Office staff are being assigned based on those requests. Principals who submitted requests will be notified by e-mail on March 24th (today).
Q: Special education continues to be a mess even more so now as we prepare to return. No one returns phone calls or emails. The office hours have very important questions posed that are basically responded with "it’s a site decision from the administration" or each office hours shares different information. Our cluster liaisons don’t get support or answers and they try their best but get nothing back from their department. There has to be another contact other than Sarah Ott or Ed Baisley, especially if they are not going to communicate with principals. We need straight answers and supports ASAP or we are setting ourselves up for unsafe practices and families having even more ammunition for due process cases. When is enough enough from this department?!
A: (Answer provided by the district) Please email Sarah Ott at sott@sandi.net or call her cell phone at 619-301-0155. She is answering all principal emails and phone calls. Also there was a Special Education FAQ today (3/24) at 12:00pm.
Q: Will we be receiving updated information regarding the bargaining of other staff returning to campus? It was shared that negotiations were in the process.
A: (Answer provided by the district) The District continues to bargain with each union, and will share agreements as they are reached. OTBS and PARA unions are aware that staff will return on April 5th in order to prepare for students on April 12th.
