SPECIAL UPDATE -- 3/26/2021

  • FOR AASD LEAD PRINCIPALS, PRINCIPALS AND VICE PRINCIPALS

Yesterday’s AASD Daily Update reported the following agreement – please read through this information for clarification on an issue that arose today.

  • BARGAINING UPDATE - AGREEMENT REACHED (3/25/2021)
The AASD Bargaining Team signed off today on an agreement regarding employees returning to the physical site and school reopening for in-person instruction.  The AASD Executive Board met earlier this morning and approved the Agreement.  The link to the full agreement is below – please read through it so you are informed.

    • #4   Lead Principals, Principals and Vice Principals:  AASD knows it is likely that many of you will need to work all or part of Spring Break in order to prepare for return of staff on April 5 and return of students on April 12.  This is unfortunate, but due to timing it is necessary.  The agreement reached allows Lead Principals, Principals and Vice Principals to be paid their DAILY pro rata rate for days worked between Monday, March 29 and Friday, April 2.  Time is to be submitted via the appropriate timecard for any administrator who works days when “off calendar.”  See the link below to the MOU (number 4) and section 7.04(a) from the collective bargaining agreement (below).  If you have questions regarding this, please email Donis Coronel at donis@aasdcs.org who will respond to your questions.

      • 7.04   Pro Rata Pay
If a site administrator is engaged to work outside their normal work year, the salary for such work will be prorated on a daily basis.  The base for prorating will be the annual salary to which the employee would otherwise be entitled as follows:

        a.  If the additional work is in the same job class and the full range of duties is performed, the base for prorating will be the employee’s regular annual salary divided by the number of scheduled workdays in their normal work year.

  • This morning, several members contacted AASD as they received an e- mail from their Area Superintendent requiring them to submit, by the end of today, the specific days the member intends to work next week during Spring Break and the number of hours each day.

Upon hearing this, AASD Executive Director, Donis Coronel, contacted district leadership.  The explanation Donis received is that Area Superintendents wish to know who is working which days (or all days) so they don’t contact or bother a member during Spring Break on days they do not intend to work.  Donis explained to district leadership that many site administrators don’t know right now the schedule they intend to work – it will depend on many different factors and how much needs to occur once they dive into the work.

AASD’s advice:  If you are asked by your Area Superintendent to provide the days between Monday and Friday next week that you intend to work, give your best guess.  If you don’t know yet, then simply put all five days.  If you know for sure you are not working a day or more, then just report the days you think you will be working.  If the Area Superintendent is asking for “hours per day” – and you don’t know what hours you will be working, just put down 8 hours per day or “all day.”

Donis made it clear to district leadership that our AASD members are professionals, honest and trustworthy and will put in for pay at the daily rate for the number of days worked.  District leadership response was that the request for members to report their schedule for next week is only meant to ascertain which administrators are not working on which days so they don’t bother administrators on any days that are their time off work and they are sorry for any confusion this request caused.

This is a link to the timecard to submit for days worked.  Remember, it is a DAILY rate of pay.  For the description of the work on the timecard, please put “Preparation for Phase Two.”  The time reporting code is PRO.  If any additional information such as budget string is needed, the district will be providing that information.
