- SITE ADMINISTRATORS WHO WORKED OVER SPRING BREAK
Yesterday morning, AASD asked the district to disseminate information via the Principals Update regarding the process and information needed to submit timecards for any days worked during Spring Break. The district has committed to providing the information in the Principals Update this Wednesday. Hang tight for direction.
- Q and A (Tuesday, April 6)
Q: I realize that the district is saying that they are sticking with the 5 foot distance BUT given how often minds are changed, if they are going to end up changing to the CDCs recommendation of 3 feet distance, they need to do so RIGHT AWAY. We are creating schedules and this kind of change will mean going back to the drawing board. It should NOT happen at the last minute. Let us know now.
A: (Answer provided by the district) Hello and thank you for your question. The 6 feet distance with no less than 5 feet is in the SDEA agreement through June and will not be changed.
Q: I would like the opportunity to do an end-of-year survey regarding what was supportive and what was not supportive (and suggestions for improvement) for central office. As school administrators our parents have the opportunity to do a survey regarding their level of satisfaction of our school. This has helped me improve how I operate things at my school. I think it would be beneficial to allow principals to do the same regarding central office support. Would this be possible?
A: (Answer provided by the district) This is absolutely possible. In central office, we are 100% committed in finding ways to better support our site leaders and educators as the most important aspect of our work happens in our classrooms and in our schools. We already receive considerable feedback from site leaders through the work load survey that AASD sends out. However, we're always open to feedback and input for how to improve our supports to schools and can work with AASD (Donis Coronel) to develop an end-of-the-year survey. (Answer provided by Sofia Roditti, Chief of Staff)
Q: Will AASD members be required to be on school sites on Fridays or will it be optional as it is potentially for SDEA members?
A: (Answer provided by AASD) It depends. If you are a BSS III/POS, you will likely be required to be on site. For Principals and Vice Principals, you always have the flexibility as a manager/site administrator in regards to your schedule and being on campus. This is something that each individual can work out, as long as the site is covered and the work is getting done. For further clarification, please contact Donis Coronel at AASD. In regards to other staff (OTBS/PARA), that is the site administrators discretion (as always) regarding who reports to the site and who may be able to work remotely on Fridays.

- SECONDARY UPDATES
- Abuse & Harassment: Suspect It, Report It Posters
- This poster reporting suspected abuse and harassment was designed by Pita Birbeck of Point Loma High School.
- Under recommendations adopted by the board, all high schools should display the posters on their campuses, including the boys and girls locker rooms.
- The poster contest stems from the Board’s Multi-Agency Task Force to Recommend Comprehensive Strategies and Protocols for Inter-Agency Cooperation for the Protection of District Students.
- The contest was organized in collaboration with School Police and other district departments to help create a culture of reporting among students and staff.
- The following communication was sent to BSS’ and POS’ from Custodial Operations on April 5:
Greetings,
Things continue to change from our last BSS/POS Zone Meetings. The latest changes involve custodial responsibilities for food service workers. Food Services currently has about 230 vacancies in their department and will need additional support from custodial services to ensure campuses are safe, clean, and secured. As always Custodial Services is responsible overall for maintaining a safe, clean and secure campus, and many of you have already stepped up to provide additional support as needed. I’ve attached a “Supplement to Food Service Worker’s Schedule”. This document outlines the additional duties and responsibilities required at this time. If additional custodial support is needed above and beyond the additional food service worker’s duties and responsibilities listed, please keep track of the time worked and there will be a provision for compensation as needed. Tracking additional time is important and will be a basis for overall funding compensation.
Please continue to provide the equipment and supplies needed to support Food Services. Some consumable supplies will be provided along with the use of existing equipment. The following is a basic list of these items:
Mop/mop bucket
Broom/dustpan/counter brush
EZ Reacher(s) (shared for trash pick-up)
Buckets/pails
Sponges
Rags
Trash cans/liners
Paper towels
Toilet paper
Hand soap
Approved cleaner (SOLSTA 243, 710 or GENLABS equivalent)
Miscellaneous items etc.
Cafeteria managers will be reaching out to BSS/POS’ for input and corroboration. Please reach out to your CSS for support if you have questions or are in need of certain provided items.
Thank you for all you do!
