- WELCOME BACK TO THE SCHOOL SITE!
On behalf of AASD, I want to welcome all students and staff back to on-site learning! I have heard some amazing stories from the school sites today and saw wonderful pictures on social media. I am sure there were some stressful moments, but our site leaders are capable of handling anything! Thank you all for your hard work on behalf of students, parents and staff. YOU ARE AMAZING! And thank you to our dedicated support staff from various departments who made the return to the school site seamless and smooth. OUR KIDS ARE BACK ON-SITE! YAY!!!
~Donis Coronel, Executive Director, AASD
- Q and A (Monday, April 12, 2021)
Q: Where can the budget strings be found for the following: - Additional time for BSS/Custodians - Additional time for OTBS.
A: (Answer provided by the district) The information for OTBS is below. The complete string will be loaded in PeopleSoft and the site will have access. Also Budget strings will be in the April Timekeeping Tips or in a separate communication from Payroll.
From the March 26th Principal Update -- REOPENING BUDGET FOR FRONT OFFICE PERSONNEL
Budget has been loaded at each site in resource 32101 to support hourly costs of reopening for front office personnel.
Q: Do I have to get COVID tested? Seems unfair since I’ve been vaccinated.
A: (Answer provided by AASD) Yes, AASD entered into an agreement with the district which states that all employees in the AASD unit that are reporting to a work site must be COVID tested every two weeks. See Exhibit A, 1.b. by clicking the link below. Note that employees refusing to test are subject to disciplinary action and/or being sent home to use their own leave balances.

- MORE CLARIFICATION ON TIMECARDS FOR CERTIFICATED SITE ADMINISTRATORS WHO WORKED SPRING BREAK
There is still confusion over how site administrators are to be paid for working during Spring Break. Please read carefully:
- TIMEKEEPING FOR AASD MEMBERS WHO WORKED OVER SPRING BREAK
- Administrators who worked during spring break will submit a timesheet with the days worked and the employee should report 8 hours on the timesheet to be paid accordingly.
- For each day worked, the administrator will be compensated at the PRO RATA rate (the employee's regular annual salary divided by the number of scheduled workdays in their normal work year).
- Below you will find the budget strings to submit the administrator time sheets:
- Principal Hrly: XXXX 32100 00 1358 07 00 01 0000
Vice-Principal Hrly: XXXX 32100 00 1359 15 00 01 0000
NOTE: AASD negotiated the DAILY RATE of pay regardless of the number of hours worked in a day. There was misinformation given by district officials at Friday’s "Office Hours." It was stated pay would be for hours worked. That is not correct. The daily rate will be paid regardless of the number of hours worked each day.
- DISTRICT COMMUNICATION
The following communication was sent to principals on April 9:
- JUST breathe...
Take a moment this weekend to breathe and reflect on all your hard work. Smile and be proud of everything you have accomplished. This is new for all of us, “back to school” in April. I know we are all experiencing the “first day of school jitters” and “back to school nerves” coupled with the excitement and wonder as well as hope for what Monday will bring. We are all excited to have our classrooms come alive again with laughter and learning, and also continue to build community with our learners still continuing at home. We see the amazing work you are doing with your site teams to include all educators, BSS, Food Service Team, and Classified staff. It might not be the perfect optimal environment, but we are confident it is the best set up that you can provide...and know that what we set up Monday morning may look different Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning as we adjust and adapt. We remain flexible to meet the needs of our students with health and safety as our priority. You got this. We got this. We believe in you. We are here for you. #BACKTOSCHOOL2021
- TIPS FOR MONDAY
- Plan for students to show up who you were not anticipating.
- Screen students who have not yet completed Clear Pass/Daily Symptom Checklist (don’t send students home).
- Provide opportunities for all students to be included.
- Anticipate technology/log in issues with students (see technology support below)
- Be patient with our students as they continue to meet health and safety guidelines. Students will continue to need time to adjust to daily routines. Thank you for continuing our prevention and education efforts when redirecting our children and youth.
- BACK TO SCHOOL GUIDE FOR FAMILIES
- We have updated the Back to School Guide for Families. Feel free to share this wonderful resource with your families in your welcome back communications.
- The English and Spanish guides are currently available, with our other languages coming by April 18.
- SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING CONTENT
- Learning is a social process and learners need to feel connected to their school, classrooms, teachers, and peers. (Aspen Institute, 2019).
- Please see Social Emotional Learning content available to educators.
- For additional questions and/or support, you may contact Noemi Villegas at nvillegas@sandi.net
- VOLUNTARY OFFICE HOURS
- Voluntary Daily Office Hours will continue to be offered for all principals next week.

- TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT DEVICES
- To assist with connecting student devices to i21 Wireless (I21WIRELESS), please follow these instructions. To connect with a teacher laptop or Windows machine, watch this video.
- For issues with Chromebooks, visit these troubleshooting tips.
- If a student experiences issues and the Chromebook troubleshooting tips do not help, exchange the device on site. Make sure to check the new device out through Destiny.
- MASK ACCOMMODATION
- KN95 masks are working with students who have sensory issues with both cloth and surgical masks.
- We have learned that the way these fit over one’s face makes it easier for some students with sensory defensiveness (autism, etc.) to tolerate a mask at all.
- Please reach out to PPE@sandi.net if you would like to try this for students.
- TRANSPORTATION UPDATE
- Initially, all qualified riders received notice of bussing services, even if they selected the online option.
- Transportation is working with sites to identify the pupils participating in online learning only and will communicate with the families that buses will not be provided.
- Students will not be left unattended at bus stops regardless of survey responses (or lack thereof) and sites should be prepared to welcome any students who arrive on campus via bus.
- If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your site’s Transportation Scheduler.
- PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR CLASSIFIED STAFF
- Please encourage your classified staff and ParaEducators to register in Professional Learning.
- PCARD TEMPORARY LIMIT INCREASE
- Finance has been receiving requests for PCard temporary increases for school reopening; we will support these requests.
- To facilitate a smooth and timely process, please follow these Procedures.
- GATE UPDATE
- As previously stated, we will not resume GATE testing until all students have returned to onsite learning. This decision is based on both equity for our students and validity in the process of assessing and identifying students.
- We appreciate your patience as we develop a path forward.
