DAILY UPDATE #260 -- 5/18/2021

  • NEW ITEMS

  • Q and A  (Tuesday, May 18, 2021)
Q:  With the new mandated Covid testing that is not really mandatory because there are employees who are openly defiant about not participating going on the 4th week now. It was stated by the district that those who did not get tested would be off on their own district leave until tested. When asked how do supervisors deal with these employees we were told not to worry about it. If this is such a health concern then this is putting every student and staff member in jeopardy. When directives such as this come down that are not fully thought out, implemented poorly, and no tools given to supervisors to enforce the mandate, it undermines their credibility. Supervisor are unable to know who is testing and who is not. Employees see the other employees not getting tested and ask "what are you going to do and if you are not going to do anything then why should I get tested." Will there be retroactive discipline for those who have not been testing since they were told it was mandatory? What about those that are calling off sick on testing days or using vacation? There is no plan for them to get tested at a secondary location when they return. The question was asked and once again supervisors were told not to worry about it. It seems that if this was such a public health crisis that it has to be mandatory then there would be a push to have them tested as soon as they return. This can't be taken seriously with such a weak mandate with no way to follow up with those who refuse to participate.
A:  (Answer provided by the district)  The COVID Testing is a mandate. If you have an employee who you believe is purposefully avoiding the testing, please collect and record the evidence and work with your Human Resource Officer to discuss corrective action.

Q:  No one including admin has been notified by HR that they have been assigned summer school. I did receive an email from Jen Roberson about a meeting next Thursday afternoon. My concern is that the summer school master schedule training is on Wednesday and Thursday of the same week. My site tech has not been notified she was selected to work summer school. When will people be notified?
A:  (Answer provided by the district)   During the week of May 10, 2021, the HRSD offered more than 1,600 summer school assignments to educators. All principals and vice principals were offered positions and more than 80 administrators have been placed.  More than 300 classified employees were offered positions during this same time. Any remaining positions are being offered this week. To say that "no one" has been notified by HR is inaccurate. Please contact Lindsay Molinaro,
lmolinaro@sandi.net for classified questions, Candace Hunter-Clark, chunter-clark@sandi.net for certificated questions and Acacia Thede, athede@sandi.net for management assignments.
