  • PLEASE READ - IMPORTANT
After producing 266 “Daily Updates” throughout the pandemic, this will be the last issue!  Starting this week, AASD will revert back to only providing the “Weekly Update,” which is produced each Thursday and sent to the personal e-mail addresses of our Members in Good Standing, Retired Members and Affiliate Members. So many of our AASD members have reached out to thank AASD for keeping them informed during the pandemic.  It’s been a privilege and honor for our small but mighty AASD staff team to produce 266 Daily Updates for AASD members over the past 15 months when daily information was needed.  AASD will continue to keep members informed with the Weekly Update on Thursdays and with a Special Update if there is critical information to share at other times.

  • Q and A  (Tuesday, June 8, 2021)
Q:  It has been talked about in our principal meetings about the Literacy Plan for next year. Principals would like to give input on the literacy plan to share what site supports and needs we see critical for next year.  We are being told that the expectation is all students will need to be at grade level by next summer.  We are being told only 35 schools qualify for a literacy specialist. How were these sites determined?  We are hearing that so much money is coming to support public schools and elementary - having only 35 schools does not show we are prioritizing the needs for all students and how sites are being supported to meet the expectation of all students reading at grade level.  We would like to give input and would like transparency for how monies are being spent for this fall to accelerate literacy for all students.
A:  (Answer provided by the district)    In the May 19th Principal Update the current draft LCAP and a survey for principal input was posted.  Please use this survey to provide any feedback you may have.

  • MAY POST AND BID UPDATE (ORIGINALLY POSTED MAY 10, 2021- new information added)
    • June 4, 2021: Post and Bid selections WERE due; principals input selections in PeopleSoft by 5:00 PM.
      • Please note- Post and bid assignments without selections in PeopleSoft by 5:00 PM will be staffed by HR per Article 12.2.1 of the current collective bargaining agreement.
      • Unfortunately, the contract dictates the process and if site leaders do not choose one of the routed employees then we have to offer the position to the most senior routed employee.  If the employee declines the offer, then we must send the position and remaining vacancies to the remaining excessed teachers, and they will be able to select a position based on seniority order; the bullets below outline the remaining steps.
    • June 14-18, 2021: Any Excess and Unassigned staff are placed by HR using the seniority- based placement process in Article 12.7.3.4.
    • June 21-25, 2021: Article 12.2.12 voluntary transfer process; site administrators may interview and may select from qualified candidates.
    • June 25, 2021:  HR sends employees the Post and Bid Selection/Assignment letter to candidates selected through Post and Bid.
    • June 19-July 31, 2021: HR staffs remaining vacancies.
