AASD Weekly Update 9-16-2021

$250 STIPEND.  For Classified members who worked physically on the worksite at least 50% of the month during July 2020 to April 5, 2021, AASD bargained a $250/month stipend.  We are told the stipend will be paid during October.

2% SUMMER EXPERIENCE INCENTIVE.  The 2% incentive for eligible members who worked during the summer programs will be paid on the end of September pay check.

LONGEVITY PAY.  Longevity payments will be made to eligible AASD members (classified and certificated) at the end of September.  Eligibility is 22 years of monthly salaried service in any capacity with SDUSD as of July 1, 2021.  The payment is 2.5% of annual salary (base pay for 2020-21).  If you are close to the 22 years and would like to verify your eligibility, please e-mail Donis Coronel at

4% SALARY INCREASE.  As a result of the AASD “me too” contract language, AASD members will be receiving the 4% salary increase that SDEA negotiated for their members.  The increase will be retroactive to July 1, 2021.  The best information AASD has at this time (subject to change) is that the 4% increase will be on the end of September paycheck and the retro pay will be paid in October.

FULL CONTRACT BARGAINING.  Full contract bargaining will begin in October.  More to come.

AASD sends sincere and heartfelt condolences to former SDUSD Chief Financial Officer, Jenny Salkeld on the death of her husband, Keith Salkeld, from COVID on September 12.  Jenny is currently the CFO for Sweetwater Union High School District and Keith was a well-known and successful realtor in the Temecula area and very active in the community.  The Salkeld’s have two daughters.  Our hearts go out to Jenny and their daughters as well as the extended Salkeld family.  From Jenny Salkeld:  “Thank you all for your love, support, and prayers in this very difficult time for our family.  Many of you have inquired about Keith Salkeld’s Celebration of Life service.  The services will be held at Heart Cry Church 9339 W. Hunt Highway in Queen Creek, AZ on Saturday, September 25 at 9am.”
The AASD Office is open with health and safety measures in place.  Office hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday-Thursday.  Staff will be working remotely on Fridays.  We ask that you call the office before visiting to ensure staff are not offsite at an appointment, running work-related errands or at lunch.  Also, if visitors are not vaccinated, we ask that you wear a face mask when visiting the office.  To check in before visiting, the office phone number is 619-295-2118.
The AASD Weekly Update will continue as usual on Thursdays with important news and information for AASD members.

The Google Form created during the pandemic is a great tool for members to share any questions or concerns and will remain active.  Please share your questions and/or concerns regarding any issues you would like AASD to follow up on.  Please be specific.  AASD will then obtain answers to the questions or concerns which will be published in the Weekly Update.  Members may also show their gratitude for other district staff in this Google Form and AASD will publish that message of gratitude.

  • IMPORTANT – ELECTRONIC LINK AVAILABLE!  FILL OUT YOUR AASD MEMBERSHIP RECOMMITMENT FORM NOW!  This information pertains to current AASD members who were AASD members prior to June 28, 2018.  It does NOT apply to Affiliate members or Retired members.  Many have asked how to “re-join” AASD in light of the Supreme Court Decision, Janus v. AFSCME.  If you were an AASD member on June 27, 2018, per the Decision, you automatically stayed as an AASD "Member in Good Standing" and will remain so.  However, we are asking all AASD members to re-commit to AASD by completing the google form (link below). This re-confirms your AASD membership and ensures that you have access to the benefits of being an AASD member – legal representation, AASD representation, discounted services, scholarships for your children, professional development reimbursements, etc.

Some of you have already filled out the new membership form over the past year – if so, it is not necessary to complete it again.  If you have any questions regarding the re-commitment form, please contact the AASD office at 619-295-2118 or e-mail one of the AASD staff members for assistance.  Thank you in advance for your commitment to our Union – AASD.
