  • NEW INFORMATION REGARDING COVID TESTING.
The following information was in the Principal’s Update on October 11:

    • STUDENT & STAFF COVID TESTING: UPDATES & CHANGES
      • We appreciate everyone’s feedback, patience and help while we continue to improve our site testing process. We have made some improvements to our K-8 sites that will hopefully help the overall testing process.
      • New Report Figure:
        • Coming soon, you will be able to use the “school CDPH consent form report” from PowerSchool to use as your correct testing list.
        • Changes will be made to PowerSchool to include a new area for testing staff to enter COVID test results for students.
          • This is for rapid antigen tests only.
          • Anyone who is trained to administer a rapid antigen test (Responsive Lab Partners staff, SDUSD staff who are trained) will now be able to put the results into PowerSchool.
        • This change does not affect High School UCSD testing.
        • By Monday, October 18, 2021 you will be able to use the “school CDPH consent form report” to run a list of students to be tested, and that list will be accurate and match the list the testers use.
        • For a list of staff scheduled to test, Responsive Lab Partners will work on their existing list.
          • IT is working on a system that testers will upload results into People Soft with a report feature.
      • Testing Site Now at Ed Center
        • Starting Monday 10/11/2021 there is now a Central Office COVID-19 testing site EVERY DAY
          • Schedule:  Monday-Friday  7am-7pm  |  Saturday-Sunday 8am-5pm
          • Location:  Next to Annex 9 in the Sandi Coast Café
          • For a map and more details please see here.
      • In Addition:
        • Site testers now have a “dispatch” they can call for supplies, problem solving and questions during the testing day.
        • If you continue to have issues with your testing site staff, email ryan@responsive-partners.com
        • We are also collecting and sharing best practices from sites around the district.
  • RETIRED ADMINISTRATORS (CERTIFICATED)
If anyone knows of a retired administration who is available to work, Logan-Memorial Educational Campus (LMEC) is looking for a substitute administrator to fill in at the site.  Schedule is flexible.  If you or another certificated retiree is available and willing to work, please contact Principal Melanie Kray at LMEC at mkray@sandi.net.

  • IMPORTANT FOR PRINCIPALS, VICE PRINCIPALS AND CENTRAL OFFICE CERTIFICATED MANAGERS - WORKLOAD
A few years ago, AASD negotiated with the District a Workload Work Group.  AASD is the only administrator union in the state to have language requiring the District to discuss certificated administrator workload.  AASD representatives will be meeting with the District on October 27 to discuss workload issues and brainstorm solutions.  We want to bring CURRENT issues to the workload work group.  Please take the time to share your thoughts on workload by clicking the survey below.  Deadline to complete this very important survey is October 18. Your input is valuable!

REMINDERS

  • OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR MEDICAL/DENTAL INSURANCE

  • BOARD APPROVES MANDATORY VACCINATIONS FOR STAFF AND STUDENTS.  At the September 28 Board of Education meeting, the Board unanimously approved mandatory COVID vaccinations for all employees.  The decision is that of the Board.  AASD has the right to bargain impacts and effects of the Board decision.  AASD has already submitted a demand to bargain impact and effects.

The date for all employees to be fully vaccinated is December 20, 2021.  The presentation stated that employees not fully vaccinated by that date will be placed on unpaid leave and will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

During impacts and effects bargaining, exemptions (medical, religious) will be discussed and must be bargained.  At this time, we do not know what the process will entail for requesting any sort of exemption.

If you have questions about this mandate, please contact AASD Executive Director, Donis Coronel, via e-mail at
donis@aasdcs.org or by phone at 619-295-2118 or 619-813-8792.

  • AASD OFFICE IS OPEN
The AASD Office is open with health and safety measures in place.  Office hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday-Thursday.  Staff will be working remotely on Fridays.  We ask that you call the office before visiting to ensure staff are not offsite at an appointment, running work-related errands or at lunch.  Also, if visitors are not vaccinated, we ask that you wear a face mask when visiting the office.  To check in before visiting, the office phone number is 619-295-2118.

The AASD Weekly Update will continue as usual on Thursdays with important news and information for AASD members.

The Google Form created during the pandemic is a great tool for members to share any questions or concerns and will remain active.  Please share your questions and/or concerns regarding any issues you would like AASD to follow up on.  Please be specific.  AASD will then obtain answers to the questions or concerns which will be published in the Weekly Update.  Members may also show their gratitude for other district staff in this Google Form and AASD will publish that message of gratitude.

  • IMPORTANT – ELECTRONIC LINK AVAILABLE!  FILL OUT YOUR AASD MEMBERSHIP RECOMMITMENT FORM NOW!  This information pertains to current AASD members who were AASD members prior to June 28, 2018.  It does NOT apply to Affiliate members or Retired members.  Many have asked how to “re-join” AASD in light of the Supreme Court Decision, Janus v. AFSCME.  If you were an AASD member on June 27, 2018, per the Decision, you automatically stayed as an AASD "Member in Good Standing" and will remain so.  However, we are asking all AASD members to re-commit to AASD by completing the google form (link below). This re-confirms your AASD membership and ensures that you have access to the benefits of being an AASD member – legal representation, AASD representation, discounted services, scholarships for your children, professional development reimbursements, etc.

Some of you have already filled out the new membership form over the past year – if so, it is not necessary to complete it again.  If you have any questions regarding the re-commitment form, please contact the AASD office at 619-295-2118 or e-mail one of the AASD staff members for assistance.  Thank you in advance for your commitment to our Union – AASD.
