DAILY UPDATE #11 -- 3/30/2020

  • AASD Office Closure

AASD will be sending out a Daily Update, Monday-Friday, throughout the school closure period.  The AASD Office will remain closed during the period of time the schools/district are closed.  AASD staff will be working remotely and can be reached at the contact information at the end of this Update.

AASD has created a Google Form for AASD Members to report issues, questions or concerns regarding work-related issues and the COVID-19 virus.  Any issues, questions or concerns submitted via the Google form will be shared daily with the District.  AASD will then share the answers to issues, questions or concerns submitted as those answers are received from the district.

The link to share issues/questions/concerns is:
    https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeVSsqBQSHboCdgqbnpaucUY--DHKjosG8MAmRuCxawzB4blg/viewform?usp=sf_link

Please do not share this link outside of AASD membership (classified and certificated management/supervisors).  The link will be active until this crisis is over.  PLEASE CHECK THE DISTRICT’S WEBSITE TO ENSURE YOUR ISSUE/QUESTION/ CONCERN HAS NOT ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED THERE.

NOTE:  All previous AASD Daily Updates and Weekly Updates are located on the AASD Website www.aasdcs.org if you need to refer back to them for information.

  • Q and A (March 30, 2020)   (Questions were submitted by AASD members; the answers are from the District.  AASD publishes the answers as they are received from the District.)

Q -- We have been told that classified supervisors will be terminated or unpaid because of the Coronavirus shut down. Does this mean that they will not come back in the fall or when school starts?
A – (Response from AASD)  Rest assured that all AASD classified managers and supervisors (as well as certificated management/principals/vice principals) are in paid status during the school closures.  There is no information from district leaders that any AASD member would be in an unpaid status.  AASD is not sure who told you this information, but it is not accurate.  To discuss further, please contact AASD Executive Director, Donis Coronel, at the contact information below.

Q -- Am I required to be available throughout the day at any time or on call during my regular hours? If I am available I have no problem doing what I can. If I do not hear anything or get any communication the day before I am making plans and commitments for the following day to get take care of things that I need to do for myself and family members.
A – (Response from AASD)  Generally speaking, all employees that are in paid status (all AASD members) should be available to work during their regularly scheduled hours, as needed by their supervisor.  If an employee who is in paid status during the closure is unable to work due to family commitments, they should take an appropriate leave on dates they are not available to work.  There is no requirement for the District to make a 24-hour notification that the employee is needed to work remotely (or in person in the case of food services, custodial, etc.).  These are unusual times, but when an employee is in paid status they must be available to work as needed.  To discuss further, please contact AASD Executive Director, Donis Coronel, at the contact information below.

Q -- Do you think the district will consider a stipend for principals (or other AASD members) to compensate for the electricity that we will be using, our personal phone bills for making calls, and other expenses we would concur working from home, especially since they will be saving monies as sites are not using the utilities?
A – (Response from AASD)  This is something that is negotiable (impacts and effects of remote work/school closures) and the AASD Executive Board is discussing this in terms of a “demand to bargain.”

No responses were received from the District to questions that have been submitted.  All questions submitted have been sent to the District for response.

  • SPECIAL GRATITUDE
If an AASD member has a department or individual that deserves special recognition during this time of crisis, please use the link above for reporting issues/questions/concerns to also show your gratitude for the department or individual.  AASD will publish that special thanks in our next Daily Update.

AASD thanks all of our members – Principals, Vice Principals, Central Office Certificated Managers, Classified Managers and Classified Supervisors for their unwavering dedication and hard work during these unprecedented times.  We appreciate all of you!

AASD thanks all of the Food Services staff, under the direction of Gary Petill and AASD Represented Managers and Supervisors, for their dedication towards ensuring that all students have a lunch and breakfast during this difficult time.

AASD thanks all School Police Personnel under the direction of Chief Marquez for their hard work and the protection of our District assets and property during the school closures, as well as their support of the food distribution program.

An AASD member also thanks Bob Werner, Custodial Operations Supervisor, for working to get a last minute custodian to help open their site.

An AASD member thanks the Legal Department under the direction of Andra Greene for continuing to review contracts and for keeping the flow of business flowing smoothly during this time.

An AASD member thanks Area Superintendent, Lamont Jackson, for taking the time to bridge communication gaps.
