EMAIL
TO PRINCIPALS RE:
DISTANCE
LEARNING
The
email below went to
Principals today
(note that the links
are only accessible
to principals who
have access to the
Google doc.)
April
3,
2020
Our
leadership has never
been more important than
right now, as we embark
on this new journey of
Distance Learning
together. Our students
and families are
counting on us. We look
forward to connecting
with you either later
today (1:00 pm for
Elementary/K-8 and 2:30
pm for Secondary and
Atypical) or Monday
morning (invites will be
forthcoming) to provide
you more information on
our Distance Learning
plan. Please note for
year-round principals,
we will set up a meeting
when you return from
break. As we prepare for
our soft launch of
Distance Learning to
begin on Monday, April
6th, alignment and
coherence are essential.
In preparation for the
meeting, please review
this Distance
Learning Plan
and the updates
below:
DISTANCE
LEARNING
LAUNCH
We have two important
requests as we prepare
for our official launch
of Distance
Learning:
1. Continue to reach out
to your students and
families to share
pertinent information.
We want to give
educators the time and
space they need to
become proficient online
instructional educators.
This means, in some
cases, you may be the
only one connecting
directly with your
parents and students in
the days leading up to
the Distance Learning
launch on April
27th.
2. Help manage the
technology needs of your
staff and students.
Please do not send
requests for staff who
already have working
devices. Sending out
devices to staff who do
not truly need them
means someone in need
might be left without
access.

SOFT

(Traditional
Schools, April

Year-Round Schools,

- Educators
will be
starting
from a
different
place in
terms of

and this is
a good
opportunity
for
educators to
prepare for
the official
Distance
Learning
launch
by:
- Participating
in
district
provided
training
- Starting
or
continuing
to
reach
out
to
students
and
families
as
they
try
on
new
technology,
platforms
and
ways
of
teaching
and
learning
- Identifying
the
limits
of
our
online
outreach.
If
students
and/or
staff
are
missing
access
to
the
internet
and/or
devices,
we
will
be
working
during
this
time
to
close
those
gaps
- Students
will be
continuing
their
learning
using
enrichment
materials
during this
time.
- Students
should
be
prepared
to
begin
learning
online
in
the

for
which
they
are
enrolled

AASD RETIRED
MEMBERS
If
any AASD retired
member needs
assistance with
essential items,
shopping, phone
check-in’s or
anything else during
this time of crisis,
please contact one
of the AASD staff
member’s below who
will ensure that you
get help. We
know some of our
valued retired
members may be alone
during this time and
we want to assure
you that we are here
to support and help
you.
-
SPECIAL
GRATITUDE
If an AASD member
has a department or
individual that
deserves special
recognition during
this time of crisis,
please use the link
above for reporting
issues/questions/concerns
to also show your
gratitude for the
department or
individual.
AASD will publish
that special thanks
in our next Daily
Update.
Many
of our AASD Members
in Good Standing,
including Julie
Garcia from Ed Tech,
thank Toren
Allen, Executive
Director of
Integrated
Technology,
who has
worked tirelessly to
support our district
with access to
technology during
these challenging
times. Starting from
making sure central
office staff have
devices and a secure
network from home,
to organizing
efforts for students
and staff to have
access to technology
for teaching and
learning, Toren is
making sure everyone
is covered! It is
this behind the
scenes work that
often times goes
unnoticed. Great
job, Toren. We
appreciate all that
you do!

to
provide
important

This
is
not
an

rather
a

We
are
inspired
by
the
union

fight
against
the
virus
on
the
frontlines.
Nurses,
grocery

sanitation
workers,
postal
workers,
utility
workers,
machinists,
auto
workers,
and
so
many
more
are
out
there
