DAILY UPDATE #29 -- 4/23/2020

  • AASD OFFICE CLOSURE

AASD will be sending out a Daily Update, Monday-Friday, throughout the school closure period.  The Weekly Update will continue as usual on Thursdays with the typical news and information for AASD members.  The AASD Office will remain closed during the period of time the schools/district are closed.  AASD staff will be working remotely and can be reached at the contact information at the end of this Update.

AASD has created a Google Form for AASD Members to report issues, questions or concerns regarding work-related issues and the COVID-19 virus.  Any issues, questions or concerns submitted via the Google form will be shared daily with the District.  AASD will then share the answers to issues, questions or concerns submitted as those answers are received from the district.  You may also share your gratitude for another AASD member, district personnel, etc. via the same link.

The link to share issues/questions/concerns/gratitude is:

    https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeVSsqBQSHboCdgqbnpaucUY--DHKjosG8MAmRuCxawzB4blg/viewform?usp=sf_link

Please do not share this link outside of AASD membership (classified and certificated management/supervisors).  The link will be active until this crisis is over.  PLEASE CHECK THE DISTRICT’S WEBSITE TO ENSURE YOUR ISSUE/QUESTION/ CONCERN HAS NOT ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED THERE.

NOTE:  All previous AASD Daily Updates and Weekly Updates are located on the AASD Website www.aasdcs.org if you need to refer back to them for information.

  • DISTRICT COMMUNICATIONS

SDUSD PRESS CONFERENCE – APRIL 23.
Press conference included speakers Superintendent Marten, Board President Evans, Board Vice President Barrera, Sam Attisha (Cox Communications), Mahogany Taylor (San Diego Council of PTA’s), Kisha Borden (President, SDEA) and Donis Coronel (AASD Executive Director).  Link to press conference is not yet available today – we will publish the link tomorrow.

The following communications were sent on April 22 from the District to Principals.  Some links are only accessible by Principals so they were removed.

    PARTICIPATION TRACKING
-Please ensure teachers track weekly participation in Powerschool by this Friday, April 24th at 5pm.

DISTANCE LEARNING HELPING SITES ACHIEVE 100% PARTICIPATION BY APRIL 27TH
-We are in our final stretch to connect with each and every student at our traditional sites by Monday.
-This will require a collective effort to support schools in achieving 100%.
-Our outreach plan is outlined in All Hands on Deck.
-Your area superintendent  will provide you with a district report that identifies which students from your site have not yet logged into their student district account to support your outreach.

    OPTIONAL DISTRIBUTION OF SITE MATERIALS
-There may be families who are in need of essential materials to support their child’s learning at home.
-Principals and teachers may follow the centralized process for providing targeted students and families with materials.  Distribution will take place at identified food distribution sites (not at individual schools).
-Date and time will be coordinated and scheduled centrally.
-This is optional & only if absolutely necessary.
-Printed instructional materials will be provided by the district at food distribution sites next week.

    DEVICE HARVEST SITES
-As of April 21st, 44,125 Chromebooks were distributed and we expect to reach 50,000+ by Friday.
-The heavy demand required a constant shift in our schedule to fully stock our Distribution Centers.

    INTERNET ACCESS REMINDERS
-Please verify that students on your hotspot list have exhausted all other means of internet access. Some families who initially requested hotspots don’t actually need them because they already have internet connectivity in their home.
-Due to the limited number of hotspots, we want to ensure that they go to students/families who really need them.
-While families wait for installation, sites should provide an alternative Distance Learning assignment (printed ELA & math materials available at Food Distribution sites).

    SPECIAL EDUCATION
    -We have finalized the
Distance Learning Plan for Related and Low Incidence Services. The teams will continue to add resources and updates as we implement services in Distance Learning.

5TH AND 8TH GRADE PROMOTION ACTIVITIES
-Principal-led committees are meeting to discuss ideas for promotion activities.
-Thank you to the principals who have volunteered to be part of the committee!
-Elementary School: Reashon Villery, Kristi Hunter, Sandy McClure-Green, Beverly Fitzpatrick, Laura Alluin, Jennifer Grondek, Kimberly Moore, Chris Kelly, Amanda Hammond-Williams, Carolyn Kalikci,Tobie Pace, Michel Cazary

    ZOOM ACCOUNTS
-Our upgraded sandi.net Zoom accounts give teachers the option to require students to “authenticate,” or sign in, using their sandi.net credentials prior to joining the Zoom meeting.
-If teachers use this feature, students may be locked out if they have not yet used their sandi.net credentials to log into Zoom.
-It is recommended that teachers not require “authentication” and continue to use the waiting room and password feature until all student accounts have been activated in Zoom.

    SEXUAL HEALTH  EDUCATION PROGRAM
-Sexual Health Education will be suspended during this period of Distance Learning.
-An email message was sent to all Educators responsible for teaching Sexual Health Education on April 20th, from Rachel Miller, Resource Teacher for Sexual Health Education Programs (SHEP).
