DAILY UPDATE #31 -- 4/27/2020
- AASD OFFICE CLOSURE
AASD will be sending out a Daily Update, Monday-Friday, throughout the school closure period. The Weekly Update will continue as usual on Thursdays with the typical news and information for AASD members. The AASD Office will remain closed during the period of time the schools/district are closed. AASD staff will be working remotely and can be reached at the contact information at the end of this Update.
AASD has created a Google Form for AASD Members to report issues, questions or concerns regarding work-related issues and the COVID-19 virus. Any issues, questions or concerns submitted via the Google form will be shared daily with the District. AASD will then share the answers to issues, questions or concerns submitted as those answers are received from the district. You may also share your gratitude for another AASD member, district personnel, etc. via the same link.
The link to share issues/questions/concerns/gratitude is:

Please do not share this link outside of AASD membership (classified and certificated management/supervisors). The link will be active until this crisis is over. PLEASE CHECK THE DISTRICT’S WEBSITE TO ENSURE YOUR ISSUE/QUESTION/ CONCERN HAS NOT ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED THERE.
NOTE: All previous AASD Daily Updates and Weekly Updates are located on the AASD Website www.aasdcs.org if you need to refer back to them for information.
- Q and A (Monday, April 27, 2020) (Questions were submitted by AASD members; the answers are from the District. AASD publishes the answers as they are received from the District.)
Q: When parents are picking up devices and have needs once they get home the district has a hotline and website. Whomever is manning the phone line is telling parents to contact the teacher or the Principal for help or a new device! That's what the Family IT hotline is for. Can we please get those manning the hotline to attempt to handle the problem or at least take the parent's information and concern and get back to them with an answer. Principals and teachers do not have devices to hand out.
A – (Answer provided by the District) Thank you for your feedback. It has been shared with District Executive Leadership.
Q -- What is going to happen with employees if the schools remain closed in the Fall for 2020-2021 school year?
A – (Answer provided by AASD) There is no response at this time. AASD presumes that all of our members will remain employed, but honestly we do not have an answer. Certificated management is guaranteed employment for 2020-21 as per Ed Code they must be given a notice by March 15 of reassignment. Classified employees may be laid off at any time with a 60-day notice. There is so much unknown at this time about how education will be provided in the 2020-21 school year.
Clarification – AASD negotiated an MOU that provides for time and a half pay for ANY AASD member who is required to report to work for any time other than a quick trip to a site. This not only includes our supervisory police personnel who are working daily and our food services supervisory personnel who are working a regular schedule – but also any principal or vice principal required to be onsite for the teacher material pickup days.
- SPECIAL GRATITUDE
If an AASD member has a department or individual that deserves special recognition during this time of crisis, please use the link above for reporting issues/questions/concerns/gratitude to show your gratitude for the department or individual. AASD will publish that special thanks in our next Daily Update.

- FROM RANCH EVENTS – DINNERS THAT FEED UP TO 6 PEOPLE FOR $25
Tired of cooking? As many of you know, all of the AASD events at Marina Village and Scottish Rite Event Center are catered by Ranch Events. They make and serve delicious meals! Starting today, Ranch Events is opening their kitchen at the Scottish Rite Event Center (in Mission Valley) for “take out” meals that feed up to 6 people for $25. Such a deal! And delicious, home style cooked meals. Meals can be ordered in advance or the order can be placed on the same day, as long as it is placed by 12 noon for that day. Pick up times are 3:00 to 6:00 PM each day at the Scottish Rite Event Center in Mission Valley. This is a great way to take a night off from cooking and still be able to feed your family at a reasonable price. AASD has partnered with Ranch Events for many years and we are pleased they are able to bring some staff back to work. Feel free to share this information with anyone you wish to.
