DAILY UPDATE #32 -- 4/28/2020

  • AASD OFFICE CLOSURE

AASD will be sending out a Daily Update, Monday-Friday, throughout the school closure period.  The Weekly Update will continue as usual on Thursdays with the typical news and information for AASD members.  The AASD Office will remain closed during the period of time the schools/district are closed.  AASD staff will be working remotely and can be reached at the contact information at the end of this Update.

AASD has created a Google Form for AASD Members to report issues, questions or concerns regarding work-related issues and the COVID-19 virus.  Any issues, questions or concerns submitted via the Google form will be shared daily with the District.  AASD will then share the answers to issues, questions or concerns submitted as those answers are received from the district.  You may also share your gratitude for another AASD member, district personnel, etc. via the same link.

The link to share issues/questions/concerns/gratitude is:

Please do not share this link outside of AASD membership (classified and certificated management/supervisors).  The link will be active until this crisis is over.  PLEASE CHECK THE DISTRICT’S WEBSITE TO ENSURE YOUR ISSUE/QUESTION/ CONCERN HAS NOT ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED THERE.

NOTE:  All previous AASD Daily Updates and Weekly Updates are located on the AASD Website www.aasdcs.org if you need to refer back to them for information.

  • Q and A (Tuesday, April 28, 2020)   (Questions were submitted by AASD members; the answers are from the District.  AASD publishes the answers as they are received from the District.)

Q -- If layoffs do happen to classified personnel, is that done by seniority, and will the laid off personnel retain their jobs when and if schools open back up?
A – (Answer provided by AASD)  Any time there are layoffs of classified personnel (any member of the classified service), layoffs are done in accordance with the California Education Code, District Procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements.  Layoffs are always done by seniority.  At this time, there is no notification of layoff other than six positions in the AASD unit (4 with incumbents and 2 vacancies) which are going to the Board of Education tonight for approval of elimination to be effective June 30, 2020.  If there are going to be additional position reductions/eliminations, AASD is not aware of this.  In regards to laid off personnel retaining positions, recall is done in reverse seniority order.  The most senior employees who were laid off or bumped down would be recalled first.

Q -- In viewing my upcoming end of April paycheck I am not seeing the time and a half for the days physically worked on a site included in the paycheck. When can we expect that? Are they issuing special checks?
A – (Answer provided by Sue Weir, Payroll Director)   All hours for time and a half (physically reporting to work)  are being reported by individual sites and departments.  That means that when the hours are reported they are processed through Payroll’s normal procedures and paid on the payroll associated with when it was reported.  So, those who have had hours reported in time for the April monthly payroll will see pay for what was reported.  If the time was not reported by the April Monthly Payroll deadline, then it will be paid on the May payroll as long as it is reported by the May deadline.

  • SPECIAL GRATITUDE
If an AASD member has a department or individual that deserves special recognition during this time of crisis, please use the link above for reporting issues/questions/concerns/gratitude to show your gratitude for the department or individual.  AASD will publish that special thanks in our next Daily Update.

From AASD Member in Good Standing Jeff Sabins, Principal, Mira Mesa High – “I want to take a minute to lift up the tireless effort and support we have received by our action team member, Scott Giusti, Director of Physical Education, Health and Interscholastic Athletics. Scott is an absolute closer! When I am in need of information or clarity on a particular issue, he is able to provide the answers I need almost immediately. In a situation like what we are facing now, where every second counts, he has saved me hours! Hats off to you, Giusti. You're a champion!”
