DAILY UPDATE #34 -- 4/30/2020

  • AASD OFFICE CLOSURE

AASD will be sending out a Daily Update, Monday-Friday, throughout the school closure period.  The Weekly Update will continue as usual on Thursdays with the typical news and information for AASD members.  The AASD Office will remain closed during the period of time the schools/district are closed.  AASD staff will be working remotely and can be reached at the contact information at the end of this Update.

AASD has created a Google Form for AASD Members to report issues, questions or concerns regarding work-related issues and the COVID-19 virus.  Any issues, questions or concerns submitted via the Google form will be shared daily with the District.  AASD will then share the answers to issues, questions or concerns submitted as those answers are received from the district.  You may also share your gratitude for another AASD member, district personnel, etc. via the same link.

The link to share issues/questions/concerns/gratitude is:

    https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeVSsqBQSHboCdgqbnpaucUY--DHKjosG8MAmRuCxawzB4blg/viewform?usp=sf_link

Please do not share this link outside of AASD membership (classified and certificated management/supervisors).  The link will be active until this crisis is over.  PLEASE CHECK THE DISTRICT’S WEBSITE TO ENSURE YOUR ISSUE/QUESTION/ CONCERN HAS NOT ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED THERE.

NOTE:  All previous AASD Daily Updates and Weekly Updates are located on the AASD Website www.aasdcs.org if you need to refer back to them for information.

  • Q and A (Wednesday, April 22, 2020)   (Questions were submitted by AASD members; the answers are from the District.  AASD publishes the answers as they are received from the District.)

    Please Be Specific!

The following entry was received via the AASD Google Doc to report issues/concerns/feedback.  This is an example of a likely legitimate concern but not enough specifics were given.  Please ensure that your submission includes enough information so that the district leaders can follow up on the concern.  There is no way for the district to respond to an inquiry such as the one below as they do not know which department the submitter is referring to.  Please be specific – we want to be able to share your feedback with the district.

Received April 30.   “Why are multiple people from the same department doing the same job but giving me multiple answers and plans? It is hard enough that so many departments are trying to problem solve things for a site but now having different people handle things different ways from the same department is beyond frustrating and creating more work for me as I untangle things.”

Clarification on Pay for EXEMPT Classified Managers and Supervisors (those who DO NOT have any asterisk by their job title on the list of classifications and are NOT eligible for any type of overtime)

Example – Exempt supervisor is working remotely and is being paid their regular pay.  Work hours are 8-4:30pm.  Exempt supervisor is called to physically work at a job site at 6pm for four hours due to an emergency.  Exempt supervisor does NOT earn overtime pay.  However, timekeeping should be recorded as four hours COVID-19 hazard pay (time and a half) and four hours regular pay.

  • SPECIAL GRATITUDE
If an AASD member has a department or individual that deserves special recognition during this time of crisis, please use the link above for reporting issues/questions/concerns/gratitude to show your gratitude for the department or individual.  AASD will publish that special thanks in our next Daily Update.

AASD thanks AASD Member’s in Good Standing Bryan Elm (Manager, PPO Program Management), Jennifer Marrone (Business Manager, Food and Nutrition Services) and Jeff Thomas (School Site Operations Specialist, CCTE) for agreeing to represent AASD Classified Managers/Supervisors on a nationwide task force that has been created by the American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA) to develop recommendations for school reopening and other challenges.  AFSA reached out to ask AASD for classified management representatives for this task force and we thank Bryan, Jennifer and Jeff for their willingness to serve.
