DAILY UPDATE #59-- 6/10/2020

  • AASD OFFICE CLOSURE
AASD will be sending out a Daily Update, Monday-Friday, throughout the school closure period.  The Weekly Update will continue as usual on Thursdays with the typical news and information for AASD members.  The AASD Office will remain closed during the period of time the schools/district are closed.  AASD staff will be working remotely and can be reached at the contact information at the end of this Update.

AASD has created a Google Form for AASD Members to report issues, questions or concerns regarding work-related issues and the COVID-19 virus.  Any issues, questions or concerns submitted via the Google form will be shared daily with the District.  AASD will then share the answers to issues, questions or concerns submitted as those answers are received from the district.  You may also share your gratitude for another AASD member, district personnel, etc. via the same link.

The link to share issues/questions/concerns/gratitude is:

Please do not share this link outside of AASD membership (classified and certificated management/supervisors).  The link will be active until this crisis is over.  PLEASE CHECK THE DISTRICT’S WEBSITE TO ENSURE YOUR ISSUE/QUESTION/ CONCERN HAS NOT ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED THERE.

NOTE:  All previous AASD Daily Updates and Weekly Updates are located on the AASD Website www.aasdcs.org if you need to refer back to them for information.

  • Q and A (Wednesday, June 10, 2020)   (Questions were submitted by AASD members; the answers are from the District.  AASD publishes the answers as they are received from the District.)

Q --  I received information today to notify my employees and for myself that they need to submit paperwork to use their vacation balances to bring them under 328 by August 31st. This needs to be completed by July 1. Has there been any discussion concerning this? We still can't be told when we will return. 95% of my employees have not been utilized in any capacity. What would we be vacationing from? According to all available resources, the stay at home order is in effect and everyone is asked to stay at home as much as possible. Should I book an airline flight or cruise somewhere? Looking for clarification and guidance before I go down this road only to have the rules changed in mid work. Please advise on how to proceed. Thank you.
A – (Answer provided by AASD)  This is a difficult situation.  According to the District, if employees who are over the 328 mark do not use their vacation time, it will be paid out and charged to the school/department budget.  THIS IS VERY UNFORTUNATE.  However, it is the District’s decision at this time.  10-month employees are already (for the most part) off calendar, so they can not be “forced” to use vacation.  11-month and 12-month employees are on calendar.  For AASD members, the message from the District is that AASD members are encouraged to take vacation (if your accrual is over 328 hours) but there appears to be an understanding that due to workload and implementation of the upcoming re-opening of schools (whatever plan the Board approves) taking vacation may not be possible due to workload.  However, there is no information that the payout will not come out of site/department funds.  AGAIN, THIS IS VERY UNFORTUNATE.
