DAILY UPDATE #99 -- 8/10/2020

  • AASD OFFICE CLOSURE.
AASD will be sending out a Daily Update, Monday-Friday, throughout the return to instruction/ school reopening period.  The Weekly Update will continue as usual on Thursdays with the typical news and information for AASD members.  The AASD Office continues to remain closed.  AASD staff are working remotely and can be reached via the contact information at the end of this Update.

AASD has created a Google Form for AASD Members to report issues, questions or concerns regarding work-related issues, COVID-19, return to instruction and school reopening.  AASD will provide answers to issues, questions or concerns submitted as answers become available.  You may also share your gratitude for another AASD member, district personnel, etc. via the same link.

The link to share issues/questions/concerns/gratitude is:

AASD wants to reiterate – Site administrators are NOT required to be physically on the school site.  It is a personal choice and no one is obligated to physically report if the work can be done remotely.  AASD believes most of the work can be accomplished remotely.  If there is any pressure or expectation to physically report, and the administrator is uncomfortable or unable to do so (due to an underlying medical condition or other reason), please contact your AASD Executive Director, Donis Coronel at the contact information at the end of this Daily Update for guidance and assistance.  AASD Members – please don’t put an expectation on yourself to physically report if you can avoid it.  We want you to remain healthy and safe!

Many questions were submitted regarding staff (other than teachers and custodial) wanting to be back on campus or site administrators wishing to bring back staff onto campus.  Per the Chief of Staff, Staci Monreal and Chief Human Resources Officer, Acacia Thede, the default is that all school site employees are to be working remotely.  In the rare case that an employee absolutely must come in to work (presumably to pick up materials or for a project that absolutely must be done on site) that should be a rare case and all health and safety guidelines must be followed.  It was made clear that SDUSD does not want adults coming onsite and then having an outbreak of COVID.  Please do not bring staff back on campus unless it is absolutely necessary.   AASD wants to thank Staci and Acacia for clarifying this information and for putting employee safety FIRST.

  • PRESS RELEASE FROM SDUSD
SDUSD issued the following press release and UCSD report this afternoon.  AASD immediately shared concerns with District leadership that the press release, Facebook Live and District website were
posted PRIOR to AASD leaders receiving the written information.

  • DISTRICT COMMUNICATIONS.
The following communication was sent to BSS I, II, III and POS’ on August 10 by Custodial Operations:

    Greetings,
We continue to see changes regarding custodial services and our district as a whole. Since our return on July 6th, many of you have embraced the challenge of getting our schools deep cleaned and disinfected in time for the eventual return of our students, staff, parents and community. Many of you are working hard to accomplish the goals set forth, and in some cases going above the expectations for a modified deep cleaning.
Adapting to the change in COVID-19 Guidelines and embracing the changes in training and procedures is evident and much appreciated! Please continue to be open to change as the situation changes with new information and procedural demands set in place, to ensure the safety and welfare for all. Thank you all for providing direction and in participating in the daily temperature checking and screening process. Weekly I receive data screening information confirming your participation and adherence. We are truly setting the example for Custodial Services as well as other departments.
The initial date of August 10, 2020 for final disinfecting has changed due to the change in the start of the school year in regard to a week of distance learning to start the school year. Titan Sprayers recently arrived and will be delivered once accounted for, inventoried, and assigned. Sprayers will be systematically delivered in groups (high schools, middle schools and elementary schools across all zones) via distribution. Sprayers will be assigned to each site according to serial numbers etc. Please take the time to review the custodial video again with your custodial crew if needed prior to usage. Once a date is determined for in-person learning a new date will be assigned for final disinfecting for all site buildings.
In a few days the District will be giving an update on the plans for students starting their school year on August 31st.  The update on August 10th from the Superintendent and Leadership will give us all a sense of what it might look like going forward, and perhaps a timeline for when schools might reopen physically for students.  The encouraging news is that all of our efforts following the State/County/City health orders and guidelines are making a difference, recent County reports are showing a promising downturn in the percentage of positive cases. If we all keep it up by wearing our facial coverings, washing/sanitizing our hands and maintaining physical distancing, we will be able to move forward, safely and together, to welcoming our students back on our campuses.
The following is an update on some of the most common questions regarding Custodial Services:
Are we required to take temperatures and screen other visitors and staff members accessing the site? We are asking that everyone be screened and checked prior to entering district property, if they have not gone through the process prior to their arrival.
Are substitute custodians required to adhere to the recent COVID-19 Guidelines? Yes, their participation and adherence is required.
Should I stay home if I have possible COVID-19 related symptoms or have symptoms of illness? Temperature checks and self-verification of symptoms are happening daily at all of our sites for custodial staff.  We can’t stress enough that you need to stay home and call your supervisor if you are having any symptoms of illness. You will be contacted by Nursing and Wellness for direction as needed.
After completion of the Custodial COVID-19 training provided do I send copies of the completed test questions in for verification? Yes, it is important that you either fax, mail or email in your completed forms as needed.
Will there be support for temperature and screening procedures for certificated and other support staff? There will be support provided in the near future that will provide direction and involve training etc.
Please continue to check all notifications daily for any changes, and thank you all for your amazing support and efforts. Please stay safe and well.
    Appreciative,
