- AASD OFFICE CLOSURE.
AASD will be sending out a Daily Update, Monday-Friday, throughout the return to instruction/ school reopening period. The Weekly Update will continue as usual on Thursdays with the typical news and information for AASD members. The AASD Office continues to remain closed. AASD staff are working remotely and can be reached via the contact information at the end of this Update.
AASD has created a Google Form for AASD Members to report issues, questions or concerns regarding work-related issues, COVID-19, return to instruction and school reopening. AASD will provide answers to issues, questions or concerns submitted as answers become available. You may also share your gratitude for another AASD member, district personnel, etc. via the same link.

- Q and A:
Q – The following was submitted by an AASD member: My husband is a custodian at one of our elementary schools. So far he has experienced district staff entering the campus without masks. As a result, I made flyers to hang at entrances reminding people to wear a mask when entering. This helped. Last week, however, as a few teachers came back to work on site, he had to tell them to wear their masks as they were walking through the campus to leave. I am very concerned for his safety, the safety of other required staff on campus and how this is monitored. Mask compliance cannot be a responsibility of custodial staff. We’ve got to get this correct or everyone will get sick. Any suggestions?
A -- (Answer submitted by AASD) Over the past few days, AASD has shared information in our Daily Update advising site administrators to please limit those on campus to employees that absolutely must be there. If the work can be done remotely, it needs to be done remotely for the health and safety of all. AASD has also shared feedback/concerns such as those above with the executive leadership at the district who are also concerned. Ultimately it is the responsibility of the site administrator to ensure that anyone who absolutely must be on their campus is following health and safety guidelines. While it is not the custodian’s responsibility to be the “mask compliance enforcer” AASD does encourage the custodial staff to report any non-compliance concerns to the site administrator. If the administrator does not take appropriate action, AASD suggests that the custodial personnel share the concern with the assigned Area Superintendent or with their union representative for support and assistance. No employee should be put into a situation where they are exposed to the virus because others are not following or enforcing the rules. These are difficult times and working remotely is not the best way to work but it is the safest for non-essential employees who do not need to be on campus.
Q -- Any reason the seniority lists are on the district website for all employees to view? I don't recall this ever being done before. This only leads to speculation among employees.
A – (Answer provided by AASD) AASD presumes that seniority lists are posted online as all employees have the right to view them. Prior to COVID, those lists were maintained and available in the HR office. Now with central offices closed, the presumption is that the lists are posted so that an employee has access to their seniority date. AASD understands your concern however seniority date information is public record.
