- LETTER SENT TO PRINCIPALS BY THE DISTRICT - INFORMATION ON PHASES 2-4
The following letter and information about Phases 2-4 was sent to principals on October 20 with the following message:
“On behalf of our district leadership team, we would like to first and foremost acknowledge your unwavering commitment and leadership to our students and families during these unprecedented times. We are grateful for your continued dedication as we ensure a safe and successful return to onsite learning based on science and following health and safety guidelines. This letter is intended to provide information we have shared with AASD and SDEA during our feedback process and respond to any concerns that may have been unintentionally created as we shared phases 2-4 for input.”

Link to Phased Implementation
AASD will be bargaining the impacts and effects of Phases 2-4 (and possible enhancements of Phase 1) with the district.
- IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL AASD MEMBERS - PLEASE READ
While AASD does not know when Phase 2 will begin, it is likely that school site employees will be required to physically return to the school site. Currently there are certain departments where employees are required to report (Food Services, Custodial, Landscape, etc.) The reality is that there will be a point when all employees at school sites will be expected to return to the physical site.
If any AASD member (assigned to a school site or department that is currently being required to report or will be required to report to work once Phase 2 is implemented) will not be able to return to the physical work site (school or department) for various reasons (ill, underlying medical condition preventing return to site before a vaccine is available, caring for family members who are in a high risk category, childcare, etc.), NOW IS THE TIME TO START THE PROCESS WITH HUMAN RESOURCES FOR ANY SORT OF SOLUTION/POSSIBLE ADA ACCOMMODATION. The purpose of ADA is to find solutions for the employee to be able to report to work. If you are in this category where you cannot report to the physical work site now or at a future date, please contact Donis Coronel, Executive Director, AASD (email donis@aasdcs.org or 619-813-8792) and she will help you and support you through this process. The time to start this process is NOW in order to have a timely resolution.

- If there are no changes, you will receive an email.
- RETURN TO WORK PROGRAM (FOR INJURED WORKERS)
- The “Return to Work Program” provides alternative work assignments for employees to return to work if they have temporary physical limitations; most often these staff members require sedentary work.
- We have been told that schools need an “extra pair of hands” to assist with clerical tasks around their schools, especially during Phase One.
- If you would like to host a staff member in the return to work program at your site to be the “extra pair of hands,” please contact Paulo DaSilva, Paulo.DaSilva@Sedgwick.com and let him know you would be willing to host a staff member.
- As the jobs come up throughout the year, your site would be contacted when a staff member needs a placement.

- ELEMENTARY UPDATES
Assessments for 3 and 4-year-olds
- When students enrolled in a classroom (4TK, Part-day, Separate Setting) at your school site and a parent or staff member requests an assessment, teams would follow the same school site procedure for all requests for assessments.
- If the school team decides to complete the assessment, the anticipated case manager (ECSE, M/M Ed Spec, SLP) will follow the assessment process by ensuring all team members involved are filling out the assessment plan, obtaining parents consent to plan, completing assessments and scheduling the IEP team meeting.
- If team members need additional support to complete these assessments please contact Sarah Ott with a request for support.
