  • Q and A (Wednesday, October 28, 2020)
Q:  There is a significant discrepancy between the number of initiatives principals are tasked to lead (reopening of schools, anti-racism, new grading policy, SPSA, new curriculum, new assessments, student technology issues, master schedule implications due to excess/retirements, etc.) and the few meetings principals are permitted to conduct per month (only 3) with teachers. Are we going to either decrease the number of initiatives or are we going to increase the number of permitted meetings?
A:  (Answer provided by the District)   Thank you for your question. Please work with your area superintendent to assist with balancing the priorities on your campus.
(Additional answer provided by AASD)   AASD hears your concern and has heard the same from many principals.  AASD has told the district that we will be re-convening the Workload Committee in the near future.

Q:  Why did the media know about the date for Phase 2 before principals and other AASD members?  The media found out at 12 noon and principals finally were notified at almost 5pm.  I’m not sure other AASD employees were even notified (other than by the AASD Daily Update).  This is really disappointing.
A:  (Answer provided by AASD).  AASD was notified of the press conference shortly after it began at 12 noon.  AASD was asked by district leadership not to share the details and reopening dates until the district notified all employees.  AASD waited all afternoon for the communication to go from the district to AASD members and contacted district leadership who did not have answers about why the information did not go out timely.  The information finally went to principals around 4:30 pm.  AASD went ahead and shared the information with AASD membership via the Daily Update, around 5pm.  This is yet another example of the district not notifying AASD represented leaders of critical information.  Very frustrating!
