ATTENTION MIDDLE SCHOOL OR HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPALS. AASD is looking for a middle level or high school principal to serve as an AASD representative on the Calendar Committee. This is an important role, as the district is looking to make changes to the academic calendar in upcoming years and the middle level/high school principal perspective is needed. AASD has a total of four representatives on the committee – two from Classified (Donis Coronel and Jeff Thomas) and two from certificated (Dr. Reashon Villery and a vacancy). If any middle level or high school principal is willing to serve on this committee, please e-mail Donis Coronel atdonis@aasdcs.org. The next meeting is scheduled for early March, so we will select a representative prior to that. AASD would like to thank Principal Juan Romo for serving on the calendar committee for MANY years. We appreciate Juan’s time and dedication to this committee.
CENTRAL OFFICE CERTIFICATED AND CENTRAL OFFICE CLASSIFIED AASD MEMBERS WHO ARE DEPLOYED TO ASSIST SCHOOL SITES. Thank you to those AASD members in central office who continue to support our school sites during this state of emergency. You are appreciated! Members have reached out to AASD with a request that they be eligible for overtime pay (same as principals and vice principals) via the available COVID funds. This would be for those who are deployed to a school site and then are doing their “regular” assignment in the evening and on weekends. AASD is working with the District on this matter. For those who are deployed, please keep track of hours you are working outside of your normal workday and/or on weekends. AASD hopes to have this resolved quickly.
BARGAINING UPDATE. Bargaining in January was canceled by the District. Our next bargaining date is February 9.
JOB POSTINGS FOR CERTIFICATED POSITIONS AND CLASSIFIED POSITIONS IN THE AASD UNIT AASD has been asked to publish the job postings in our Weekly Update. AASD also suggests that all applicants (classified and certificated) mark their calendars to check weekly for new job postings each Monday. This way, you will not miss out on a posting you might be interested in (as all jobs in the AASD unit must be posted for 10 days).
CONDOLENCES AASD acknowledges deaths of our members, retirees, or their immediate family members via the Weekly Update. If you have information on a death to be reported in the AASD Weekly Update, please contact any of the staff at the AASD office with the information. NORTH ISLAND CREDIT UNION SCHOLARSHIPS. North Island Credit Union will award 10 students with a scholarship of $1000 each. High school seniors and community college students transferring to a four-year university who maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 are eligible to participate. Selection criteria include academic performance, school or community involvement, a letter of recommendation, and an essay submission. Applications are available through Friday, April 8, 2022. $2500 AFSA/Diann Woodard Scholarship. AFSA awards five one-time $2500 scholarships to graduating seniors of members each year based on academic excellence, passion for volunteerism and display of exceptional work ethic. Students who apply must clearly express their goals for the future and appropriately tie those goals to their higher education aspirations. Any child/step-child graduating senior of an AASD Member in Good Standing/Affiliate Member/Retired member is eligible. It is not a competitive process. The scholarships this year will be $1000 per student.
DISTRICT OPENS “STAFF ONLY” COVID TESTING SITE. The District opened a new COVID testing facility for SDUSD STAFF ONLY. The Balboa Testing Center is located at 9330 Balboa Ave, SD 92123. This is the location of the former Jack in the Box headquarters and the property that will eventually become the new SDUSD Education Center. Testing hours are: Monday-Friday 7am to 7pm and Saturday/Sunday from 8am to 5pm. The site is closed on holidays. This testing site is for SDUSD employees only. No appointment necessary. If staff have not already signed up for testing at the school site, please go to the Primary Health portal to register before arriving at the site to test:https://my.primary.health/l/sdusd testing. Both Rapid Antigen and PCR tests are available.
RANCH EVENTS FAMILY MEALS ARE BACK! Tired of cooking? Not comfortable eating out in restaurants? At the request of their customers, Ranch Events is returning to providing family meals starting Monday, January 17. Family meals will be available for purchase Sunday-Thursday until further notice. Meals must be pre-ordered online and picked up at the Scottish Rite Center (Mission Valley) between 3pm and 6pm. Many of our AASD members enjoyed the meals during the 2020-2021 year. AASD has had a great relationship with Ranch Events for years. They cater many of our social events. This family meal service allows Ranch Events to keep their staff employed as many catering events are being canceled.

AASD OFFICE IS OPEN The AASD Office is open with health and safety measures in place. Office hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday-Thursday. Staff will be working remotely on Fridays. We ask that you call the office before visiting to ensure staff are not offsite at an appointment, running work-related errands or at lunch. The Google Form created during the pandemic is a great tool for members to share any questions or concerns and will remain active. Please share your questions and/or concerns regarding any issues you would like AASD to follow up on. Please be specific. AASD will then obtain answers to the questions or concerns which will be published in the Weekly Update. Members may also show their gratitude for other district staff in this Google Form and AASD will publish that message of gratitude.
MEMBERSHIP IN THE ASSOCIATION OF CALIFORNIA SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS (ACSA).There are two promotional applications starting this year.
$2 a day for Regular ACSA memberships.
$1 a day for districts with management team dues. Click herefor the application.
You will notice that on this new application form (in section 5), there are two options that will be in play starting this year…standard regular OR consolidated charter dues. The attached application would be used for SDUSD members. The SDUSD members fall in the Select Union category and will be eligible for the $1/day ACSA Memberships without the legal support or they can choose to do a Regular Membership with full legal support.
DISCOUNT MOVIE TICKETS. AASD has both AMC and Regal Entertainment Group (Regal/Edwards/UA) movie passes available to members in good standing, affiliate and retired members. Regal tickets are $9.00 each. These passes have no expiration date and are unrestricted, so they can be used any time and for newly-released movies.
The AMC tickets are $10.25 each, have no expiration date, and do not have any restrictions. Contact AASD to purchase tickets or if you have any questions.

If you were an AASD member on June 27, 2018, per the Decision, you automatically stayed as an AASD "Member in Good Standing" and will remain so. However, we are asking all AASD members to re-commit to AASD by completing the Google form (link below). This re-confirms your AASD membership and ensures that you have access to the benefits of being an AASD member – legal representation, AASD representation, discounted services, scholarships for your children, professional development reimbursements, etc.
