BARGAINING UPDATE. All proposals were presented by AASD to the District in December. Bargaining was scheduled for January 18 and canceled by the District as they are not yet prepared to respond to our proposals. We are scheduled for bargaining on February 8.
Additionally, AASD continues to inquire about the implementation of a Hybrid Work Policy. At this time, there is no response with an implementation date from the District.

SCHOLARSHIPS FROM NORTH ISLAND CREDIT UNION.The North Island CU Annual Scholarship program is now available! The credit union will award 10 students with a scholarship of $1,000 each. High school seniors and community college students transferring to a four-year university who maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 are eligible to participate. Selection criteria include academic performance, school or community involvement, a letter of recommendation, and an essay submission. Applications are available through Friday, March 10, 2023 and winners will be announced on the North Island Credit Union website Monday, April 3, 2023. The following article appeared in the AASD Update on January 5, 2023. Below it is information regarding the Celebration of Life for Margie Klassen:
It is with great sadness that AASD shares that retired AASD Membership Clerk, Margie Klassen, passed away on December 17. Margie was the Membership Clerk at AASD from 2012 to 2016. Prior to working at AASD, Margie was employed at SDUSD in the Benefits and Human Resources Departments for 20 years. She retired from SDUSD and then worked part-time for AASD, where she was the AASD Membership Clerk/Receptionist and greeted all members with a warm hello and a smile. Margie was a beautiful soul, kind and giving, and had an infectious laugh. She was a voracious reader, sometimes having 2-3 books going at the same time. Margie was a single parent and raised four children on her own. She loved her family and her friends, and she was a joy to be around. Condolences may be sent to Margie’s son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Nicol Klassen, 12427 Heatherton Ct. #245, San Diego, CA 92128. They will share the condolences with the family.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR ALL GRADUATING SENIORS FROM THE ASSOCIATION OF CALIFORNIA SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS (ASCA).Region 18 of ACSA and the SD County Schools Boards Association are offering ten (10) $1,000 scholarships as a result of donations made by both organizations and business partners. The scholarships provide an award for ten high school seniors who meet with following criteria: 1) are pursuing a career in education as a teacher or other certificated employee, 2) attend high school in the San Diego/Imperial Counties area, 3) show proven academic success with at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average, 4) are involved in community service, and 5) who may not necessarily qualify for other financial aid.
