AASD AND THE DISTRICT REACH A TENTATIVE AGREEMENT ON OUR COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT! Your AASD Bargaining Teams have reached a historic Tentative Agreement (TA) with SDUSD for a three-year successor Collective Bargaining Agreement giving ALL AASD unit members a 15% across the board raise and a reopener on Wages for the third year of the contract (2024-25)! AASD already has an excellent contract and your bargaining team was able to negotiate improvements for AASD members in several articles. Your bargaining team accomplished improved language in how the District handles threats against our unit members (which is on the rise), what our members are entitled to when a complaint is filed against them (also on the rise), doubled maternity leave from three weeks to six weeks, a highly improved Supervision Stipend for not only Associate Principals but Principals and Instructional Coordinators at the High School level, reinstatement of stipends for School Police Captains (who take a demotion in pay when promoting from Sergeant to Captain), recognition for the extra training site administrators with a State Preschool onsite must do, an increase in the number of Personal Necessity Days from 10 to 11 and more. This is a historic agreement which shows the District supports and believes in our unit members and the work you do – both Classified and Certificated. We are very pleased to share the information below with our AASD unit members.

Voting on our new Collective Bargaining Agreement will occur starting Thursday, June 15 beginning at 12 noon and will continue through June 20 at 5:00 p.m. Voting will be done electronically by clicking the appropriate link below. Following ratification, the Board of Education will vote on our contract most likely at the June 27 meeting. It is very likely that the salary raises will appear on your paycheck at the end of July and that the retroactive check will be produced late in August.

AGREEMENT REACHED REGARDING HOLIDAY PAY FOR PRINCIPALS AND ASSOCIATE PRINCIPALS WHO WORKED CIF PLAYOFFS. The MOU that AASD negotiated will be going to the Board of Education on June 27. Principals and AP’s who worked CIF playoffs, and reported their time to AASD, will be paid for the time they worked. AASD also suggests that all applicants (classified and certificated) mark their calendars to check weekly for new job postings each Monday. This way, you will not miss out on a posting you might be interested in (as all jobs in the AASD unit must be posted for 10 days).

CONDOLENCES AASD acknowledges deaths of our members, retirees, or their immediate family members via the Weekly Update. If you have information on a death to be reported in the AASD Weekly Update, please contact any of the staff at the AASD office with the information. We appreciate your help with this – we don’t always know right away when a death has occurred or the information on services.
AASD would like to extend our sympathies to AASD Member, Maria Gomez, Instructional Coordinator, E3 Growth and Development, on the loss of her father, Delfino Gomez, on May 27. Delfino, also known as dad, uncle, tata (grandpa for the Spanish impaired) and husband, lived a long life – just 6 months short of turning 102 years of age. He came to the United States through the Bracero program in the late 1940’s. Working in the construction field, he was able to help erect many monumental structures throughout the county of San Diego – Jack Murphy Stadium, San Diego High Stadium, and most buildings in Downtown, just to name a few. He was a proud Local 89 Laborer’s Union member who continued to pay his membership for years after he retired. His first words of advice when Maria became a teacher were, “Make sure you join the union!” She gladly followed suit.
Delfino loved his family and was happiest when he was surrounded by his entire family – wife, three children, and three grandchildren. His legacy of love, family, and hard work will live on through generations to come. Delfino was laid to rest on Saturday, June 3, 2023.
AASD sends sincere condolences to our former AASD member, Krista Conn (Human Resources Manager, Retired), on the loss of her mother, Margo Beatty on June 13. Margo fought a courageous battle with cancer. Margo was a former District employee for many years in the Finance Division and her husband, Jim Beatty, retired from PPO. No services are planned at this time.

DISCOUNT MOVIE TICKETS. AASD has both AMC and Regal Entertainment Group (Regal/Edwards/UA) movie passes available to members in good standing, affiliate and retired members. Regal tickets are $9.00 each. These passes have no expiration date and are unrestricted, so they can be used any time and for newly-released movies.
The AMC tickets are $10.25 each, have no expiration date, and do not have any restrictions. Contact AASD to purchase tickets or if you have any questions.

It does NOT apply to Affiliate members or Retired members. Many have asked how to “re-join” AASD in light of the Supreme Court Decision, Janus v. AFSCME. If you were an AASD member on June 27, 2018, per the Decision, you automatically stayed as an AASD "Member in Good Standing" and will remain so. However, we are asking all AASD members to re-commit to AASD by completing the Google form (link below). This re-confirms your AASD membership and ensures that you have access to the benefits of being an AASD member – legal representation, AASD representation, discounted services, scholarships for your children, professional development reimbursements, etc.
Some of you have already filled out the new membership form over the past year – if so, it is not necessary to complete it again. The District no longer provides a hard copy to AASD members. You are welcome to view the contracts on our website and feel free to print a copy, if you wish. AASD PROFESSIONAL GROWTH GRANT.The Administrators Association San Diego City Schools (AASD), in conjunction with the San Diego Unified School District, provides financial grants to members to assist them in their professional growth. Unit members who participate in professional development activities related to job-connected skills or potential careers with the District may qualify to have the cost of registration fees defrayed by available funds up to $100.
