AASD Weekly Update 6/22/2023

NEW ITEMS

RSVP REQUIRED ...
  • VERY IMPORTANT FOR ALL AASD CLASSIFIED MANAGERS AND SUPERVISORS.  After sending our AASD Classified contract to the membership to vote, it was discovered that there was what we call an “unintended consequence.”  This  occurred when the District settled with the CSEA units in the past week which negatively affected AASD classified members who make less than $100,000 annually.  CSEA negotiated a change in the longevity pay to a flat stipend of $2,500 for those members with 22 years of service.  This negatively impacted AASD classified members who make less than $100,000 as the AASD longevity stipend is 2.5% of annual salary.  An AASD member who made $60,000 received longevity pay of $1,500.  AASD contacted the District regarding this inequity.  There was no intent on the District’s part to create this inequity, and AASD and the District came to an agreement that is fair for our AASD members.  The tentative agreement was revisited and a change was made in the language to state that AASD classified members will receive either 2.5% of their annual salary or $2,500, whichever is greater.  So, in the example of the AASD member who received $1,500 in longevity pay (22 years, 2.5% of annual salary), the member will now receive $2,500.  This new language is retroactive to July 1, 2022, so those who received longevity pay last year of less than $2,500 will receive the difference retroactively.  Going forward, the new formula will be in place.  What this means is a “win” for our members who make less than $100,000.  Those making over $100,000 will still receive 2.5% of annual salary.

If you have questions or concerns regarding the longevity stipend, please join a Zoom meeting on Monday, June 26,  at 2:30 p.m.  Click the following link on Monday to join the Zoom Meeting.

We are required to vote again to incorporate this improvement.  We must vote on the entire contract in a re-vote. If you are a classified employee, your AASD Board of Directors encourages you to support this change.  The only changes from the original tentative agreement are the changes to longevity which is a plus for AASD classified supervisors/managers who make less than $100,000.  Please “re-vote” by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.  All AASD classified managers/supervisors are urged to vote.

  • AASD CERTIFICATED MEMBERS RATIFY TENTATIVE AGREEMENT FOR SUCCESSOR AGREEMENT.  Voting has closed and the good news is that the AASD Certificated members ratified the 3-year tentative agreement!  100% of the members that voted approved the 3-year Agreement.  The next step is that the Successor Agreement (3-year contract) will be on the Board of Education agenda on July 11 for Board ratification.  It is still planned that the salary increase will be included in the check at the end of July.  The retro for the 2022-23 ten percent (10%) increase is planned for August but is contingent upon Payroll being able to produce it within that timeframe.  Thank you to all AASD Certificated members who took the time to vote.  You are appreciated!

  • FOR PRINCIPALS AND OTHER AASD REPRESENTED CERTIFICATED MEMBERS WHO ATTENDED OR WILL BE ATTENDING THE DELOITTE “COURAGEOUS LEADERS” TRAININGAASD and the District have reached an Agreement for AASD certificated members who attended the Deloitte Training in 2022-23 or will attend during 2023-24.  All who attended will receive two (2) additional PPI days which must be used prior to June 30, 2024.  Those days are NOT currently included in your PPI balance on record and do NOT affect your ability to roll-over up to eight PPI days on June 30, 2023.  Details are being worked out, but when you request to use PPI, if you are using a “Deloitte” day, AASD suggests writing that in large letters on the request form.  Those who attended Deloitte in February 2023 attended on a holiday so those attendees are receiving three (3) PPI days instead of two (2) PPI days.  The June 30, 2024 deadline to use these days applies to all who attend Deloitte whether in 2022-23 or Fall 2023-24.  The Agreement goes to the Board of Education for approval on July 11.

  • AGREEMENT REACHED REGARDING HOLIDAY PAY FOR PRINCIPALS AND ASSOCIATE PRINCIPALS WHO WORKED CIF PLAYOFFS The MOU that AASD negotiated will be going to the Board of Education on July 11.  Principals and AP’s who worked CIF playoffs, and reported their time to AASD, will be paid for the time they worked.  Once it is approved by the Board of Education, the MOU will go to Payroll for payment.

  • AASD SUPPORTS OUR MEMBERS.  Read below for an example of how AASD serves our members.

AASD recently had numerous certificated and classified representatives on various interview panels for executive leadership positions, including Area Superintendent.  Thank you to the AASD Board of Directors members and other Members in Good Standing who agreed to serve.  Your input on interview panels was necessary and much appreciated.  We applaud the District for reaching out to AASD for representation.

This is another example of what AASD does to support our members.  If you need assistance from AASD, please contact the office at 619-295-2118 or e-mail the Executive Director, Donis Coronel, at
    donis@unitedadmin.us.

  • IMPORTANT – ELECTRONIC LINK AVAILABLE!  FILL OUT YOUR AASD MEMBERSHIP RECOMMITMENT FORM NOW!  This information pertains to current AASD members who were AASD members prior to June 28, 2018.  It does NOT apply to Affiliate members or Retired members.  Many have asked how to “re-join” AASD in light of the Supreme Court Decision, Janus v. AFSCME.  If you were an AASD member on June 27, 2018, per the Decision, you automatically stayed as an AASD "Member in Good Standing" and will remain so.  However, we are asking all AASD members to re-commit to AASD by completing the Google form (link below). This re-confirms your AASD membership and ensures that you have access to the benefits of being an AASD member – legal representation, AASD representation, discounted services, scholarships for your children, professional development reimbursements, etc.

Some of you have already filled out the new membership form over the past year – if so, it is not necessary to complete it again.  If you have any questions regarding the re-commitment form, please contact the AASD office at 619-295-2118 or e-mail one of the AASD staff members for assistance.  Thank you in advance for your commitment to our Union – AASD.
