AASD Weekly Update 11/16/2023

NEW ITEMS
RSVP REQUIRED ...
  • THANKSGIVING MESSAGE FROM THE AASD BOARD OF DIRECTORS As we approach the season of gratitude and reflection, the AASD Board of Directors and UASC Staff want to take a moment to express our deepest appreciation for each and every one of you.  Thanksgiving is a time to come together, give thanks, and celebrate the spirit of unity that makes AASD strong.  In this season of gratitude, we are extremely thankful for the dedication and hard work that each of you bring to the team.  Your commitment to excellence, collaboration and the values we hold close is what sets us apart, and we are truly grateful to have such a talented and devoted group of individuals as part of our union family.  As you gather with your own families and friends to share in Thanksgiving, let us not forget the extended family we have here at AASD.  Our union is not just a collection of employees, it is a community of individuals working together towards a common goal.  Your contributions, whether big or small, play a vital role in our collective success.  Happy Thanksgiving from the AASD Board of Directors and UASC Staff.

The UASC/AASD office will be closed November 20-24 for the Thanksgiving Break.  If you have an urgent matter during this timeframe, please call or text UASC/AASD Executive Director, Donis Coronel, for assistance.  The office will reopen on November 27.

  • MILEAGE REIMBURSEMENT FOR AASD CERTIFICATED MEMBERS AND CLASSIFIED MANAGERS.  The following was sent out via The Principals Update from Accounts Payable.

    AASD Mileage Reimbursement

    • On October 9, it was shared that Classified and Certificated Managers (including Principals, APs, etc.) who are eligible for mileage reimbursement need to follow the reimbursement process in the PeopleSoft Handbook Travel & Expenses (pp. 53-57).
    • AASD members that are Dept./Site Approvers in PeopleSoft cannot submit AND approve their own mileage expense report; therefore, someone at the school site needs to submit the mileage on the AASD member’s behalf so the AASD member can then approve.
    • If you are an AASD member who already submitted mileage, you should:
      • Confirm that the 00003 resource was used and make the necessary corrections if it wasn’t.
      • See a one-time approval come through for the mileage you already submitted.
      • Know that future submissions will be returned to Accounts Payable if the AASD member is both the submitter and the approver.
    • Questions: Sherrie Shumaker

  • FOLLOW UP - CERTIFICATED WORKLOAD WORK GROUP RESPONSE FROM THE DISTRICT LEADERSHIP.  As reported in a previous Update, the AASD Workload Work Group met with District leaders to review the survey responses from our AASD Certificated members.  For the first time since the inception of the workload contract language, AASD received a written response from the District!   Link - District Response, Workload
AASD thanks the District leadership for taking the concerns of our certificated AASD members seriously and for the response.  We look forward to continuing to partner with District leadership on these issues.

  • IMPORTANT – ELECTRONIC LINK AVAILABLE!  FILL OUT YOUR AASD MEMBERSHIP RECOMMITMENT FORM NOW!  This information pertains to current AASD members who were AASD members prior to June 28, 2018.  It does NOT apply to Affiliate members or Retired members.  Many have asked how to “re-join” AASD in light of the Supreme Court Decision, Janus v. AFSCME.  If you were an AASD member on June 27, 2018, per the Decision, you automatically stayed as an AASD "Member in Good Standing" and will remain so.  However, we are asking all AASD members to re-commit to AASD by completing the Google form (link below). This re-confirms your AASD membership and ensures that you have access to the benefits of being an AASD member – legal representation, AASD representation, discounted services, scholarships for your children, professional development reimbursements, etc.

Some of you have already filled out the new membership form over the past year – if so, it is not necessary to complete it again.  If you have any questions regarding the re-commitment form, please contact the AASD office at 619-295-2118 or e-mail one of the AASD staff members for assistance.  Thank you in advance for your commitment to our Union – AASD.
