UPDATE: BUDGET CUTS/POSITION ELIMINATIONS/REASSIGNMENTS. Bargaining Impacts and Effects of the Reduction in Force. AASD has demanded to bargain the Impacts and Effects of the decision to eliminate positions and/or reorganize departments. The decision is that of the District; however, AASD has the right to bargain the “impacts and effects” on our members. Information about this bargaining will be provided via the Weekly Update.
Important for Any AASD Member in Good Standing Who is Affected Either by Position Elimination, Reorganization or Reassignment from an AASD Position to a Teaching Position. AASD knows this is a difficult time for our affected members. To assist with your career decisions going forward, AASD has contracted with and is funding a release time day (do not need to charge to any leave – this release day has been approved by the District) to participate in a full day training at the AASD office of “Career Coaching” provided by a certified coach – Mike Gellman, High Five Career Coaching. Mike will work with attendees on resume writing, interview skills, LinkedIn profiles, and much more. AASD will provide breakfast and lunch for all attendees. Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity provided by your Union. RSVP is required – click below to RSVP. There are three dates this training will be offered.
Post and Bid for Affected AASD Certificated Members. If you were told that you can participate in SDEA Post and Bid (without priority consideration) this Spring, HR has confirmed that you were given misinformation. AASD members are NOT eligible to participate in the Spring (May?) Post and Bid. Once AASD received word from our affected members that they were told they could participate, AASD Executive Director questioned this and it was determined an error was made in the talking points given by HR to managers making the notifications to affected members.
Informational Zoom Meetings for Those AASD Members Who are Affected – These are meetings provided by AASD (not the District). AASD Executive Director, Donis Coronel, will be holding Zoom Informational Meetings as follows. If you attended the Zoom on January 17, it is not necessary to attend any of these dates unless you want a repeat of information. If you have been notified you are affected, please consider attending.
WEBINAR FOR ALL AASD MEMBERS IN GOOD STANDING AND AFFILIATE MEMBERS. From the Employee Wellness Committee (AASD Representative is Veronica Ortega). “Maximizing Your SDUSD Benefits” webinars will be held next week, January 23-25, in the afternoon. Please consider attending. Click the link for more information. 2024 Maximizing Your SDUSD Benefits (sharpschool.com)
LEGISLATIVE AND POLITICAL AFFAIRS (LAPA) COMMITTEE REPORT The LAPA Committee has been busy this month interviewing Assembly candidates and reviewing legislation. The LAPA Committee will bring recommendations forward to the Board of Directors for Assembly races in the 77, 78, 79, and 80th districts. We will interview Senate District 39 candidates prior to the next Board of Directors meeting.
With the Assembly and Senate back in session, new legislation has been introduced along with active legislative bills from last year being brought back. A new legislative chart for 2024 has been created and is now available by clickinghere. Our LAPA Committee encourages our members to review our chart and forward any legislation questions, concerns or bringing to our attention other legislation we may not be aware of to LAPA@unitedadmin.us.
AASD SUPPORTS OUR MEMBERS. Read below for an example of how AASD serves our members.
A member contacted AASD regarding the fact they felt they were eligible for the longevity stipend and did not receive it. The member has a break in service during their tenure with SDUSD; however, the years added up to over 22 years of service which is the qualifying number. AASD Executive Director, Donis Coronel, worked with HR and Payroll and it was determined the member was eligible and owed back pay.
This is another example of what AASD does to support our members. If you need assistance from AASD, please contact the office at 619-295-2118 or e-mail the Executive Director, Donis Coronel, atdonis@unitedadmin.us.
JOB POSTINGS FOR CERTIFICATED POSITIONS AND CLASSIFIED POSITIONS IN THE AASD UNIT AASD has been asked to publish the job postings in our Weekly Update. AASD also suggests that all applicants (classified and certificated) mark their calendars to check weekly for new job postings each Monday. This way, you will not miss out on a posting you might be interested in (as all jobs in the AASD unit must be posted for 10 days).
SPECIAL GRATITUDE When members wish to show their gratitude for other district staff, please contact Donis Coronel at donis@unitedadmin.us and AASD will publish that message of gratitude in the next Weekly Update.
CONDOLENCES AASD acknowledges deaths of our members, retirees, or their immediate family members via the Weekly Update. If you have information on a death to be reported in the AASD Weekly Update, please contact any of the staff at the AASD office with the information. We appreciate your help with this – we don’t always know right away when a death has occurred or the information on services.

Some of you have already filled out the new membership form over the past year – if so, it is not necessary to complete it again. If you have any questions regarding the re-commitment form, please contact the AASD office at 619-295-2118 or e-mail one of the AASD staff members for assistance.
